:o :o I'm getting so confused.... This is like the most chaotic episode of "secrets reveiled" ever! Now Carlin is evil? :o :o

I swear, my eyes went like Bruno's when I saw that.

When are ya gonna stop the revelations and start the explainin' (or at least recap for those of us who have tiny little minds...)?

Hmm. Notice how Carlin's cue stick is broken... I suspect this may have something to do with what's going on.

that's it! xu'buxx was imprisoned in the cue stick, and when it broke, he was released and took over the nearest body (carlin's), and now, of course, he's pretending like it's carlin saying all this stuff, and he's using all the stuff maledict made up to make it seem like that was all real (xu'buxx being carlin's father, and all), just 'cause he's mean and evil and all, and the _real_ carlin is unconscious, so he can't throw xu'buxx out....*whimper* not carlin!

on the other hand, everyone jumping into lydia's arms for safety is pretty funny....all except for maledict's poor staff, left to fend for itself.

Hmmmmm... course, Carlin may not be going evil. He could just be cutting loose with hidden powers and ready to lay the smackdown on Xu'buxx.

While I suppose that's a possibility, Carlin looks pretty nasty to me. =P

I think this qualifies as the weirdest Bruno storyline ever. I mean, sure, it started out like a typical Bruno storyline, and was good enough already. Then we hit Sloth, and it threw most of us seeing the simplistic drawing. Shortly after that, we got into Envy, which I suspect still threw most of us, although not quite to the same extent. Then, it turns out that *Maledict* is Carlin's father. (Okay, when it looked like Xu'Buxx was his father, that was surprising, but I'd say it was average as startling revelations in this strip go. =P) And now, this.

What I find a truly mindbending thought, though, is that I suspect that Ian has something even *weirder* in store for us. Just what it could be, I don't know. Maybe someone like Xerxes or Uncle Lucius is going to save the day. =P

(Or maybe Ian's just going to read that last sentence and make a note for future reference. You can never tell what cartoonists might do. =P)

Or maybe it's a case of deus ex machina gone to the horribly literal extreme.

Whichever way this ends, I think Mr Mcdonald has now passed the qualification tests required to join the Guild of Evil Cartoonists.
I mean, ever since his introduction, Carlin was saintness incarnate. With or whithout religion, he was goodness personified - when he appeared in a story, it was always as the moral compass. And now...Even if it isn't what it seems, it's still the most brain-shattering event that has happened in this strip, IMO.

it _is_ truly bizarre - surprising how much of a jolt it is to see carlin being evil. i can't think of any other character whose total transformation would shake me as much (well, maybe fiona). i think it's because the change is to evil - if, for example, bruno suddenly changed to total good, we would know it wouldn't last long....but somehow, the taint of wickedness makes it seem that, even if carlin should recover, he would never really be the same...which is unfortunate; he was one religious guy whose philosophy i could get behind.

ok, ian - let's see how you're going to pull _this_ one out!

(although since there is still no total number of strips, i take it you are going to torture us a while yet....yeah, definitely an evil cartoonist (tm).)

Mine too, up there with Dibunquer.

Monster Mountains

Postby Goon on Mon May 12, 2003 8:01 am

Perhaps all that we are witnessing is Carlin getting pissed off for the first time in (how long the guy's been alive?) and the monster mountains are simply having it's (long denied) power applied to Carlin (notice how Lydia seems to be reminding us what will happen to Bruno if he attacks her in the Monster Mountains).

Out of curiosity, Mouse, what would count as a total transformation of Fiona (that could actually be portrayed as how she really is)?

Hmm. It's *possible* that Carlin's just doing this to get Xu'Buxx to show himself, so that he can be stopped. In fact, I just thought of something truly weird. Carlin says "I love you, father!" today. Now, remember what Carlin does with the monsters... he keeps them away by loving them, and actually converts a few back by doing so. Since Xu'Buxx feeds on pain, and is evidently the source of the monsters, maybe love hurts him, and Carlin intends to love him to death... =P

That doesn't change the fact, however, that Demonic Carlin is probably the freakiest thing ever seen in this strip.

I dunno...I think it might take some "comparison shopping" to rule out entirely the sight of "Busty Bruno" as most freaky...
