I suppose one can never be as certain of the father as of the mother.

It's a bit of a shock, finding Carlin himself so ruinously deceived. The forces of light are definitely having an off-day.

PS: Einar, that dark, eldritch little smilie-animation is haunting my dreams. Is it a grim legend, or a warning against dabbling in the Black Arts, or a misunderstanding at a Halloween party?

Once again, Maledict rears his particularly ugly head, wielding the frowny-face staff of doom.

I suppose it makes sense. They DO Resemble one another.

As a matter of fact, I wonder why innahell I hadnt noticed it before.

And lo, the Brunoverse complicated again.
So...If Maledict is Carlin's father, what led Carlin to believe otherwise?
In a sense, all this build-up, only to discover it was a set-up, is a bit disappointing...But it's still a great story.

well, maledict is pretty evil - maybe not as evil as xu'buxx, but pretty evil. definitely evil enough that his rebellious son would be good.

had i any energy, i would go back and look up where carlin was discussing his parentage - but it seems maledict fooled his mom. as i recall, she was chosen by xu'buxx to become his queen...which suggests maledict was maybe fooling around with some constumes, and perhaps some funny mushrooms. so carlin's mom thought he was fathered by xu'buxx, and doubtless that's what she told carlin - and lydia knew, in carrying out her imposture, because she had ol' mal to consult.

that man _does_ get around.....

All of the above. It's a warning against the black arts in the form of a grim legend of a Hallowe'en party.

Hmm. I wonder if Maledict had something to do with the monster-inducing effects of the mountains. He's been around since the beginning of Rothland, so it's certainly possible.

I also wonder if Bruno's army has any training in bluegrass music. If so, I don't think the monsters stand a chance. =P

Ah! The Bluegrerass Barbarians. Wouldn't they make a great shirt? You know, done up like a band shirt, with tour dates throughout Rothland and the song from the comic =)
