so you guys can ignore it if you don't want to deal with political rants.
this is from the new york times; it is part of bush's response to trent lott's comments on the occasion of strom thurmond's birthday*:
"And the founding ideals of our nation and, in fact, the founding ideals of the political party I represent was, and remains today, the equal dignity and equal rights of every American."
now, am i the only one still stunned by this level of hypocrisy? yes, yes, i know - in the days of abe lincoln, the republicans _were_ the champions of equality for blacks - but the GOP must have poor old abe spinning in his grave so fast he's probably bored his way down to the earth's core by now....
* At a party for Senator Thurmond of South Carolina, Mr. Lott said, "I want to say this about my state: When Strom Thurmond ran for president we voted for him. We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years, either." about the only platform thurmond's campaign had was segregationism.
