Ella v. Bruno

Postby nickydinosaur on Mon Oct 28, 2002 4:59 am

Anyone else besides me have a wee prob with last Friday's strip where Ella makes the crack about evil vs. stupidity and Bruno snarls "shut yer yap!"? Our Bruno ain't Mr. Manners, certes, but I don't think Ella would stand for that. Not only is she a fairly tough cookie under that bland exterior, but she's just been transformed into a Celebrity Mom From Hell. But in today's strip she just wanders off meekly with King Bruno after he's dissed her severely. Doesn't seem in character.

Plus, didn't Bruno sorta fall for her when she whacked Xantippa & he felt the pain in 20021016? Clearly he wants a woman who will smack him around. :)

Plus2, this is a bad beginning for the alleged "new family" idea. I don't mind the thread of Bruno & Ella kinda getting together (though if I know this strip at all, it won't last, or it will get thrwarted again&again&again at the last minute by incredible disastrous events), but I think Bruno giving Ella cr4p is a bad precedent.

Perhaps it was...

But, alas, with only a few frames to work with, Mr. McDonald can only squeeze so much arguing into each script. Ella may have also realized, despite the fact she's incredibly bitchy right now, that Bruno has slabs of muscles and could **supposedly** squash her head like a melon getting the bad end of a sledge hammer.

either that, or maybe she's just too focused on li'l Delores and merely ignored Bruno, much as they all do whenever he's blathering in the 'background' of the conversation...

bruno spends so much time yelling at so many people for pointing out his...shall we say, less than genius level intellect? - that i think everyone just ignores this from him (i mean, he was in an actual fist-fight with his dad, and not for the first time.) as for "meekly" - 1) she didn't have much room to react on friday (ah, the curse of a limited strip size!) and 2) i think in today's (10/28 ) strip, she's more trying to figure out what ambrose and fiona are laughing about. i really doubt she is at all in awe of bruno's muscles. i have a feeling, if anything, she's more the mannerly type, and just doesn't want to make a huge scene in public (and in front of delorus). but when she gets him alone....

...oooooooo, BABY.

-- being a celebrity-mom, I'm fairly certain we will (or would) have the opportuninty to see a none-too-demure Ella-in-action (unless she is now a warrior-cutie-mom, in which case she might just box Bruno's ears and leave it at that).

Yeah... when anything starts to go right for Bruno, there's usually some unexpected catastrophe that happens which makes it go horribly wrong for him. History has a tendency of repeating itself.

Yes. It finds itself repeating, but not always in the same way.

well, of course it finds itself repeating, because it's there where it's been. if it goes another way, it wouldn't be able to find itself. (although it might meet someone else interesting along the way.)

welllll...."interesting" is one word for it....

wow - a cliff-hanger!

any bets on who defeats the monster? i'm guessing a) delorus attacks it, fails to make a dent, and collapses into tears, and the monster just melts because she's too cute or b) fiona outwits it.

Sugar! Spice! Everything nice! These are the ingredients for making the perfect little girl. But Professor Utonium accidentially added an extra ingredient... Chemical X... Thus, the Power Puff Girls were born!!

(Yes, I used to watch too much TV...)

Yes... it's part of my Cartoon Chemistry at Home course. My kids are really into it, especially when I blow up the house.

I like making the stuff that lets you hide behind really skinny trees...

I used to play the Toon role-playing game a while back... it was a kick to be able to play cartoon characters that never die, but just 'fall down' when they lose all their hitpoints, and recover to come back for the next scene...

heh - like the gutter-cushions they use for bowling alleys nowadays (Now, in my day...)...

...I can see the potential fun in that set of rules, from an-RPG standpoint, but I bet the LARP parties tend to get kinda messy...

according to the acronym finder: live action role playing.

now how this differs from plain old rpg-role-playing i have no clue, since i've never done either one....

I guess that's to differentiate it from CRPG (Computer Roll-Playing Games) or the on-line variety... Mostly I got out of playing RPGs because there was too much argument over the rules and not enough playing.
