Why not let Delorus die?

Postby Limax on Mon Sep 30, 2002 11:23 am

It has been shown that fame vampires, after they turn to dust, are 'reborn' into ordinary people. It doesn't seem to be too painful a process. Why not let Delorus do the same and then she won't have to worry?

brute! did you look into those eyes? they're just like a BABY UNICORN'S! would you kill a BABY UNICORN???

besides - as i recall, they don't necessarily get reborn in the same spot, so they would have to go find her in her new form.

also, it would kill the storyline as well. (yeah, i know - details, details)

Damn good question, Limax! All I can say is, it will be dealt with... eventually, I promise!

Wasn't Eunyce reborn in the urn Ashram put her ashes in? If so, wouldn't they just need to keep Delorus's famevamp ashes someplace until she was reborn?

I suppose, "benign neglect".

But come on, guys. You don't want to inflict that on the kid! Death is a traumatic experience which needs years and years of preparation to get through. I'm not trying it until I'm 87, at the very earliest.

can't be - we've got, like, a zillion strips to go. :D

of course, delores has a pretty powerful set of fame-vampire genes, being inherited from both sides of the family. seems to make her pretty fragile, though.

(and i love the camerabats - cute, and yet what a great comment on celebrity-chasing!)

Looks like that might be the case... Note to self: Never speak in front of a fame vampire... it can lead to all sorts of trouble.

Also, why has Bruno never been affected like this?

perhaps it's a recessive trait - bruno's father is apparently normal (at least, as far as fame-vampirism goes) - so bruno would be heterozygous for the gene. i imagine that normaly, a fame vampire would never dream of marrying a common type.

and, of course, given the way his father treats him, if bruno _had_ been a fame vampire, he would have expired long ago.....

Hm. I went back and checked the Elysia and the Nosferantix stories, and it appears that Ella did rise from the ashes where she 'died'. However, I did notice something else interesting during the Nosferantix story... Ambrose has both his arms. Has it ever been explained how he lost one of his arms?

Nope! Haven't gotten around to that story yet, Limax. In case you don't know, Ambrose also has both his arms in "Do The Wrong Thing Right", the bonus story in the back of Bruno: Most Wanted. That story took place when Bruno was "a young stripling", i.e. in his late teens.

Also, Bruno was never affected by the "fame vampire" trait because he was conceived after Eunyce lost her fame-vampirehood, and became an OHB (Ordinary Human Being). However, he still must have some potential to become an FV himself, as Nosferatinx sought to make Bruno his successor during the "Nosferatinx" storyline.

Will the FV trait ever manifest itself in Bruno? Only time will tell...

Later,
Ian

It could be that he hadn't thought of that before now.... as far as infamy vamires go, that would be rather... um... interesting.

bruno would probably be a lot more eager to achieve that one, given his attempts to join - rats, what was the name of that criminal organization (my memory is getting filled up with work-related details and other useless trivia).

of course, he wasn't wildly successful at that, either....

The author sure knows how to use an allegory... and hammer it on the head again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again
