since it seems many of you are disgustingly young and/or foreign, it strikes me you may not know the song to which today's title refers. (also it is now running endlessly around in my head.) so, for your edification, the words:

oh lord, it's hard to be humble
when you're perfect in every way
i can't wait to look in the mirror
'cause i get better looking each day
to know me is to love me
i must be a hell of a man
oh lord, it's hard to be humble
but i'm doing the best that i can.

(i am also privy to the further fact that this was performed by mac davis)
(no, i will _not_ explain the circumstances under which i came by this knowledge)
(and no, ant, it was _not_ written about you)

Yes, it was not written about me...

It was written by me, and about me... Several centuries ago, of course.

The "blue jeans" reference was merely added by Mac Davis in his bastardised "country" version a couple of decades ago.

Yes. I've been around a while. Yes, I know the song. Yes, birth certificates sometimes lie...

(I'd put a sinister  in here, but that probably wouldn't fit in the "nice month" bit, so here's a substitute:)

hmmm - and here i thought the 'skin-tight blue jeans' verse was the only one that _might_ refer to you....

and I would have thought that the mirror-bit didn't...

...must be discouraging hearing all that crackling glass...

You're all just jealous...

It's these love-starved women at my feet, isn't it?

Yep -

you're going to let them up, eventually, aren't you? They look so uncomfortable stuck between your toes.

however, it _does_ make him stand out from the crowd... i mean, no one will get _near_ him.

You should have seen my "authentic pearl jam" days....

I had those little buggers squished in tight, I tell you... Authentic Pearl Toe Jam...

I'm certain it was an improvement over your Doors Toe Jam phase

So, what do you think of the pretty colours I paint my talons now?

errrumm -- yes, those are very nice shades of green and black.

I had no idea that was paint... [/aside]

No, no, no!

OOOOooohhhhh -- yes, very nice...

...and the Barbie TM appliques -- nice touch.

You like 'em? Good...

I originally tried it with barbie heads (before flogging off the rest of the bodies at an auction), but they came off looking ghoulish...

On you?? Nah...

...wait -- you forgot the bobble springs, didncha??

In my efforts to be nice, I'll agree with you.

Of course, not knowing what the heck a "bobble spring" is, agreeing with you is much easier than straining my poor widdle brain anyway...

Just another sample of inane collectibles

they need to do an animated page to be really effective. they are 'bobble heads' because the head is connected to the body by a spring that makes the head go 'bobble bobble bobble' when touched. (i mean 'go' in the sense of motion, not as in 'they say'.) they are descended from the noddy-headed dogs people used to put in the back window of their car. (although i don't think those had springs, more sort of a balance-bar apparatus). (they used to make them out of some kind of fuzzy hard plastic - why don't you see that stuff anymore?)

you know, some distant day, archeologists from an alien culture are going to dig this place up, and they are going to be _so_ confused...

My wife told me there is a Dancing Bobble-head page -- akin to the hamsters...

...I tried and I tried...

i really loved the hamsters - especially the music.

I have to agree. I couldn't let my self listen to it for too long though -- it seemed to stir very dark things....

So they're kinda like the little dogs with the bouncing heads that were a craze here in the 70's?

Why can't things like that just die?

PostPosted: Fri Aug 30, 2002 12:13 pm

but they do - now there are no dancing hamsters, or noddy-headed dogs.....not even fuzzy plastic

Now you've done it!

You'll see all three "Come back in vogue" again in the next 12 months...

And overpriced as hell!
