The Strip

G'day all,

I just wanted to break tradition and say something about the strip. Other than "I like it," that "it is brilliant," and all other sycophantic commentary that I've already said.

Well, here goes:

Erm...

Bruno was a little bandit-like when he was a bandit.
Now he's a king and, well, he's not really much of a bandit. He's not much of a king either...

Fiona? She's cute. And she's the most micro-dragon-like micro-dragon that I've seen. Of course, she's the only micro dragon that I've seen, but that's beside the point.

Numthkul is just that...

Maledict is a malicious dictator...

Erm...

I'm all commented out. This sleep depravation and caffeine abuse is really starting to take its toll...

But look! I commented on the strip!

Yay for me!

Cheers,

Antarius of On Topic

so I guess I can't rightly run amok about the rest of the board without contribution here...

...Ian put you up to this didn't he.

So anyway...

maybe it has more to do with the m/w/f schedule as opposed to weekday, but I've enjoyed Ian's pacing even more lately. I've been happy to see "of more than I can count" when it comes to indicating the end of the storyline; it means that we're going to take our time getting through this particular Bruno tale and that Ian is comfortable enough with the characters to let them have their moments to develop.

The gags are fun, some are punishing, but they're fun. The art work is impressive -- let's just say that of all the on-line comics I've seen tossed around, Ian's strips are the ones that most rarely leave me wondering what the hell that wierd smudgey patch in panel two is.

But really, Ian is an accomplished storyteller. One of the things I like best about the strip is watching the world of Rothland get explained, bit by bit.

so there.

Although a nice, leisurely stroll is always an acceptable substitute...

Fool! I am Ian! :D

The whole "Antarius" poster has always just been a little game, to promote posting! Kind of like an April Fools' joke that someone forgot to stop.

Like there could ever be anyone as crazy as "Antarius," and still live!

Later,

I agree; the wait between strips also makes you appreciate when the update comes up.

The story lines have been getting more involved and fleshed out. Not that any of the old ones were bad, mind you!

And just ignore the "of more than I can count," part. Once "Ian" gets up to about 16, he has difficulties as he runs out of digits to count on. (He has extremities similar to those found in a Matt Groening cartoon...)

I'm curious as to what you mean by "punishing." Sure, they are pretty punny, but isn't that what we are hear for?

If it doesn't get a groan or some level of nausea, it's not a pun...

I'm just waiting for a Sluggy reference with "Pun-Pun," (Though a micro dragon will always be kyooter than a homicidal mini-lop.)

Most definitely. The artwork is exquisite for a comic strip - entirely worthy of syndication, I would add. Of course, we all know Ian's thoughts on syndication, so we won't push the issue. :D

Yes; you think that you've got it sussed, and something mysterious gets thrown into the fray.

And then there are the weird pasts or histories of the character that seem to come out of nowhere. Headacheron being an example - we find out about Numthkul's curse from Master Bae Shon and so forth.

(I still can't believe he "Pulled that one Off...")

Oh, stop groaning. There's been worse than that!

Major Tom wrote:so there.

I'd fire into an "I know you are, but what am I?" thread, but given the above puns, I don't think any references to Paul Reubens are really that necessary...

Cheers,

Antarius

i agree about the art - this _is_ one of the few webtoons whose creator can actually draw; i love seeing all the detail in the world around bruno. and, as the major says, it's neat to have all the bits and pieces of past history come up, and fit themselves into the puzzle. as to bruno's current role - he's actually rather a side-character in this story line (at least at the moment) - this (to me) is primarily maledict and numth'ull battling it out. bruno may be king, but in this storyline, he's just a pawn.

(obviously, i enjoy ian's humor also - i find his puns painful primarily in how hard they make me laugh)

Come in my bedroom, in the suitcase on the left you'll find my favourite axe...
Don't look so frightened, this is just a passing phase.
One of my bad days...
Would you like to watch TV?
Or get between the sheets?
I'll try to break this silent freeway...
Would you like something to eat?

Would you like to learn to fly?
Would ya?
Would you like to see me try?

Why are you running awaaaaaaayyyyy?

(Yeah, I know... There's a few errors there, but at <3am for the third straight week (with work at 7), I'm really not caring much!)
