Darn it, I was going to claim the 1,000th post, but you beat me to it.

In the meantime I'm just transcribing the 1,400th Bruno strip for the search archive.

Boy, if I had a dime for every time somebody asked me THAT question... :D

The next goal: how soon can we get 8000 posts in total on the BTB Board? Ladies and gentlemen, start your keyboards!!

8,000 posts will not be a problem, I'm sure.

The only problem for me is where I keep visiting forums instead of doing more important things (I'm just committing the latest batch of updates to the search engine; I've just got to the end of the Bluebird of Happiness, putting me on 1,402 strips, or half-way through January 2004 in the archive)

How many posts are on the BtB boards in total right now?

I'm not too familiar with this forums functions or settings, quite yet. :p

In a similar vein, I've been setting myself little goals to help me to get more of Bruno transcribed; the plan is to transcribe each story arc at a time, subject to real-life events getting in the way, instead of just doing 'some' or 'as many as I have time for'.

I've just finished "Couples" (ends June 04), which has just finished uploading to the server as I type, and will be tackling "A Word From Our Sponsors" and "The Good Guy" next - that'll make me happy to finish, since that'll put me on the official 1,500th strip (although nearer to 1,540 actually transcribed at that point).

Still, I expect 9,000 posts in total to happen before I catch up all the transcriptions... why can't I type faster?

whew, nice to know my ill thought-out political zealotish type rant didn't scare anyone away.

I felt pretty stupid after writing that . . .

I'll be honest, I felt a bit similar after my little whine about the UK, which is why I've been a bit quiet myself... not to mention that things here aren't exactly wonderful right now (which is why I still haven't dug into Bruno properly over the last couple of days)

it's not the argument I don't like, it's the way I approached it.

I was much too emotional in my response, and it relies mostly on "no it isn't", (well, "no they aren't"), rather than logic.
I need more solid facts and evidence to back up my claims, instead of mere considerations and stereotypes of my own.

I love a good argument too, I just wish I were able to appreciate it more thoroughly right now.

But I guess zealotry isn't necessarily a bad thing; if you're passionate about what you talk about, and you believe in what you're saying, it can be a good stimulus and even precedent to change for the better. I'm passionate about the UK - I love the UK as a whole, its history etc. and I'm just really concerned that the government appears to be driving us into the ground, and despite my love for my country, I don't think I could continue to live here if the government seems intent on policing thoughtcrime as it is currently appearing.

@Ian: I'm doing OK, thanks - working on WordOwl and contributing to the technologies that support it (namely Sphinx) is keeping me occupied at the moment when personal crises aren't.

I promise I too won't post in this thread any more. When someone lets me know what the thread is meant to be about ('cuz I couldn't figure it out), maybe I'll come back when I've grown up enough to answer sensibly.
