Oddness with ohnorobot transcriptions

Postby Freak on Fri Oct 26, 2007 6:05 am

I was just looking over ONR, and I noticed that there's a big gap in the available pages:

See http://www.ohnorobot.com/archive.pl?com ... =0&page=34

It goes from Feb 17, 2006 (with transcription), to April 11, 2007 (no transcription at present).

Any idea whether it's a problem on your end or his?

As I recall Gav lost his password, or they lost it for him, or something of that order. In any case it means he can't clear new transcriptions, even though they exist.

Yeah. I actually got ahold of Ryan North back in April and he said he would change my password for me so I could log in again, but then when I gave him a password, he didn't write back. Maybe my email got lost, I dunno. I'll have to try again.

Hooray! Ryan wrote back finally. I now have a new password (and more importantly, Gmail knows it too, so I won't forget). So now I can get back to proofreading and approving transcriptions.

It says I've already approved 775 and 407 are awaiting approval, making 1182 total. There are about 1500 total Nukees strips, so that means about 300 remain to be transcribed. That's not bad!

Enough comics have been transcribed that it's actually getting a little troublesome finding comics that still need it. They'll probably get harder to find as there are fewer of them.

Is there a good way to find comics that haven't been transcribed yet?

Thanks!

I actually went to Ohnorobot.com earlier and tried to find this. When I clicked on the "help transcribe" link before, it sent me to a page that was empty except for their logo. I guess that was just server trouble, because it's working now.

It looks like the "Transcribe this" images aren't showing.

If the image doesn't show, it means the comic has already been transcribed. You may not see the transcription at the bottom of the page, because either (a) I haven't updated the Nukees site with the newest transcriptions or (b) I haven't proofread and "approved" the new transcription. There are still 400 strips that have been transcribed, but I haven't approved yet.

I've also not seen them on pages that, according to ohnorobot, need transcribing.

The links are there; they're just attached to 1x1 gifs.

Example: In firefox, look through http://www.ohnorobot.com/archive.pl?com ... =0&page=36 and pick a comic. Click Tools->PageInfo->Links. There will be an ohnorobot link. Then choose a date that isn't listed, go to that date, and look at the page info again. There won't be an ohnorobot link.
