Bible says what?

Postby KevinHall11 on Fri May 04, 2007 4:25 pm

Matthew12:29: "Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man's house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can rob his house." That's not so much meant to be advice, it's just part of an extended metaphor.

The verse you're thinking of comes three later in 12:32.

You didn't think anyone would check, did you Gav?

Don't different versions of the bible have slightly different numbering?

Actually, I meant Mark 3:29. The quote appears in different forms in different gospels. I accidentally mixed the book and chapter of one with the sentence number of the other. And I was obviously a little slow in fixing it.

nope, those numbers have been standardized for hundreds of years. they'll use different wordings obviously, but it's variation within sentences and lines.

Aye, be too damn confusing if they changed the verse numbers. Hard enough to track down what someone is talking about as it is.

With most of the bible, verses by themselves can be confusing or easily misinterpreted. You usually have to read the whole passage to understand its context.
