i have relocated to Darwin in australias top end - found a pub that has a really cool idea "100 Pint Club" if you drink 100 pints in 6 months your name goes on the wall, there are so far only 30 names up there.

i am 40 pints in with my name (three weeks in) so i have decided to start a tally for Gav. but i need his full name and i cannot find it on the site nor on the wikipedia page. also i do not want to go right back through the archives looking for it, could someone help me out here?

:D it'll be one more thing for the gav spotting

I take it you are talking about Gav (character) then his name can be found quite easily.

Look at the link in my last post.

{edit}My question could have been clearer. I meant Gav (character) or Gav (Real).

There's no evidence against it, either. He could have been making it up, but that's entirely out of context for the reference. The whole plot line for the trip home was about Danny finding out embarrassing things from Gav's parents.

I think you mean: Gaviscon Aviscena Vandarin.

(Suzy Gee told us his initials spell G.A.V. -- back in the patent days ...)

On another note ... I was cleaning up my medicine cache the other day, and what did I find?

Gaviscon.

I almost laughed out loud.

No, it's Van Darin, not Vandarin. It's one name and only gets one initial, but it's written with 2 capitals just like McWhatever or O' Something.

Other examples:
Van Dyke
Van Helsing
Van Impe
Van Bourgondien
etc.

Really?

I guess it might be a cultural difference then -- at least on this side of the pond, someone like Ludwig van Beethoven might be referred to as "LvB", even though "van Beethoven" is just one name.

As long as it is two words, it does not matter if it is one name.

FWIW (i.e. probably nothing), dictionary.com seems to agree with my understanding:
initials The first letter of each word of a person's full name considered as a unit: stationery monogrammed with her initials.

(Emphasis mine.)

Well, I'm mainly saying that it only get's one initial because that mantains the joke of his initials spelling GAV.

On taking a second look, I'm now confused. Looking at the recent comic, Danny seems to have a space in his word bubble, indicating that it is Van Darin. Or van Darin. Hard to tell in a comic that uses all caps.

On the other hand, there's this comic. That one does have clear spacing and lower case letters, and it clearly says "Vandarin".

Since the original image seems to be more clear, I suppose it is Vandarin.

Yeah it's sort of a recursive thing.

GAV with the first name being Gav.

Anywho... My brain somehow missed that Gav Van Darn dose NOT create the initals GAV. So I'm missing the middle name

Gav ???? VanDarn

Like McLean is just M not ML

(Middle name Colin BTW)

First name Gaviscon. Danny was just making fun of his full first name the middle name is not mentioned here.

Well, since there's some question here about which is correct in what context, you can't expect a flyer in the Nukees universe to necessarily be perfectly correct, can you? :)

I'm just wondering if he has a little sister named "Mylanta"... ;)

One of the big mysteries.

'kay, I'll be honest on this one. When I first revealed his name, I made it one word, to enhance the "initials" aspect of it. I didn't want people writing in saying, "But wouldn't that be GAvD?"

Later, I decided that his name really should be two words, if only to solidify the pronunciation (which also changed in my mind over time--another story completely). I haven't fully committed to either way. I haven't doctored up the original strips, figuring I could always fall back on the fact that Suzy just got it wrong when she made the flyers. After all, she is focused on the initials aspect of it all.

OK.

Now, why is it that all of Suzy's friends like to use both her first and last name? Were you originally thinking that "Suzy Gee" was a double first name?

No, her name has always been "Suzy" first and "Gee" last. There is no reasoning behind it, other than it sounds cool, and presumably annoys Suzy.

I'm sure everyone has experiences in which certain names in certain groups just kind of "stick." Way back in the day, before we all graduated, people used to call me "Gav," they called Danny "DanHua," and another two of my friends were called by their last name. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason to it, other than it seemed to fit. Later, we realized that it seemed to also correspond to people's login names. I'm still not sure if that was a coincidence or not.

So you might theorize that she chose "suzygee" for a login name and it stuck. If you so felt like theorizing.

Along those lines, I've evolved the "King Luca" thing over time as well. Certain people would call him "Luca" in the beginning and others took to "King Luca" right away (corresponding to how much they believed in the delusion--Danny, for instance, almost always uses the "King," while Gav does not. Suzy's use has evolved depending on her relationship with him and her eventual brainwashing). Nowadays, there's a lot more usage of "King" even by the "heretics," owing to the stickiness of repetitive usage, much to Luca's delight. Er, I mean, "King" Luca's delight.

I went to college with a girl who was constantly known as 'Nicky G' - or just 'G' for short (usually the former) - it just seemed to fit better than her real name (first name Nicole, surname started with a G, if you're wondering). She was never 'Nicole' or even 'Nicky'. And like probably many others I have friends who I think of their nickname before their given name (or forget the latter entirely).

Just thought I'd share. :P

Personally, am sorta waiting for the day Gav(charecter) uses the full name and titles of Luca; 'Hail King Luca, Lord of the Crown, Defender of the Faith, Protectorate of the Realm, Holder of the 4.0, etc. etc.'; just to watch Luca faint in shock.

I think Danny just made that one up just to screw with Gav.

Aviscena sounds like Dannys just trying to turn "Gav" into a female name.
