Proving evil

Ohh come on Gav is too lazy to actually prove he is evil. It is all part of being evil.

[Websnark]
Of course, Jezebel is most probably right. Or rather, half-right. While Gav has demonstrated more than once his ability for selfish behavior (the most memorable example being his enslavement of the freshmen), he does seem to try to be thought of as more evil than he really is. "Ye would rather be known as a rapist than a hero?" asked King Lucas. Yes. Yes, he would. He risked his own well-being, possibly his life, to protect Suzy from Casanovocaine - then afterwards, not only did he let her go on believing that he had drugged and raped her, but also demanded that Lucas keeps the night's events secret.
Gav seems determined to be known as a diabolical, evil genius. We can speculate on his reasons...Some deranged form of pride? The power that comes from being feared? A way of distancing himself from others?
What I find the most interesting isn't that Jezebel figured it out, but that it's being mentionned by someone in the strip. Saying what has been long-unspoken - and one of the strip's main elements? I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

Gav is the playful evil of Helen Narbon.

And you can quote me on that.

I have to disagree, it's different kind of evil. Gav is cynically evil, Helen is cutely evil. Gav strives to be evil, Helen simply is; she's mad so there's little choice about it.
Helen would never just push someone from a barstool, she's too nice, instead she'd slip a mutagenic in the drink. Gav's evil is harsher imo..

Shoving someone off a barstool is harsher than slipping them a mutagenic? :-?

In a way. It's more physical, it lacks a certain refinement.
In a way Gav is just mean, or acting mean at least. His mad-scientistness isn't matter of fact. Helen on the contrary is not mean but simply mad (in the 'mad scientist' way). She doesn't mean anything by it. Heck, she dearly loves Dave, but still slips him a mutagenic every now and again ;) She can't help it.

You know, the more I see of Jezebel, the more I like her as a character.
Her analysis seems to reinforce the "A way to distance himself from others" theory.

Helen == Helen Beta Narbon, of Narbonic. (It's part of Modern tales, but has substantial free parts to the archive.
