Wait.. How'd she do that?

Postby Timberwood on Tue Apr 07, 2009 12:23 am

Ok Clint you've got me stumped with this one.

I can figure out that she got hold of his knife hand and the blade is falling out, I can even figure out how she got him to release the knife, and how she got his arm twisted with that footwork.

But the one thing I can't figure is: how the hell did she get hold of 3 of his fingers? Seems to me the handle of the knife would have gotten wedged in there.

:-?

Actually.. looking at the image again.. Clint, is his left thumb on the wrong side of his hand? Or is the mark just above his wrist not supposed to be the tendons on the inside of the wrist? /me confused

I definitely should have had the knife falling from the other hand (Which I realized when I was lettering it). May need to photoshop it....

So... assuming that the knife was in the other hand....

His palm is facing towards us. She's bending three finger back and jacking his elbow skyward. Her next move would involve angling his elbow towards the door and driving her (practice) knife into his lower back/kidney area.

It is hard to do this stuff with no one to actually try the move on... Sorry for the confusion. I'm getting old, rusty and inattentive.

Possibly senile....

Which way is she twisting his wrist? To the inside or the outside? It's making a bit more sense with the knife being in the wrong hand, now I'm just trying to figure out which way his arm is twisted?
NM. Palm is towards us, which means an inside twist, so the thumb's also on the wrong side.

Either way no worries, I really shouldn't be dissecting the technique like this as is, my instructors would probably all be shaking their heads. :shifty:

No. The I believe thumb is correct...

His arm is twisted clockwise..... wait... crap. The thumb is OK, but the back of his hand should be facing us, not the palm.

Senility. It's a bitch. Definitely fixing this in photoshop... :grumble:

I like it though! Only way I can think to be peeling his fingers off the knife like that is, ironically, a trick called "crushing the child".

and driving her (practice) knife into his lower back/kidney area.

Or she could be nice and subdue him :-) (using, say, the lock in this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xESnHOOP4M0). Him being huge, he would make a good shield from someone originally behind her.

And if you don't mind my asking, just what pawing with a knife means?

It mean him pawing with his free hand to try and grab her knife hand. I've seen people actually try this. I don't recommend it...

The only time it'd be worth going for is if you're in a last ditch situation, and you don't have anything to bring to the table yourself, and no place to run. Even then you don't paw at the weapon, that signals intent and leaves you vulnerable.

We did a lot of knife and weapon disarms in training. Interesting stuff to work with, but if I can talk my way out of the situation I'm that much better off.

Now that makes sense. I believed it was the knife hand somehow "pawing".

Even then you don't paw at the weapon, that signals intent and leaves you vulnerable.

But then what's left?

True. I suspect however that someone who is deranged enough to pull a knife in a non-defensive manner won't let you go easily.

Stillness, patience, and letting the enemy hand you the weapon. ;) To paraphrase feonixrift's signature:

Depends on why they've drawn it. It's really amazing how many people that are carrying out violent actions really just need to talk with someone who isn't going to judge them.
