Standup comic, died in the early to mid-nineties. Highly acerbic and critical of the religious right, the government, upper-class fooferaw, etc. Sort of a Lenny Bruce for the eighties, and no fair asking me who Lenny Bruce was. I discovered him when I found out that Bill Maher's "cowards" quote that earned him fame and hatred on Politically Incorrect was actually sourced by Hicks five years earlier. Lots of material out there on the Web, including a buttload of Realplayer files for those who want to get acquainted. Garth Ennis, who wrote a comic called "Preacher," actually wrote Hicks in posthumously because he liked him so much.<P>Whew.
