Keenspot Newsbox for May 22

Cannot be described through mere words.

OK, anybody who noticed the Newsbox running on Keenspot comic pages on May 22 will have noticed (how could you not notice?) Naked Anime Chick prominently featured. I'd just like to say that this was *not* my idea. I didn't even know my turn in the Box was impending. I gotta admit I thought it was pretty funny when I saw it Monday morning, though, but I really had no idea it was coming.
However, a number of Keenspotters angrily yanked it down and chastised me mightily for it. So even though it wasn't my doing I can't, to quote Bart Simpson, help but feel partly responsible. So to atone I'm going to specify who I want in my next Newbox go-around: a new character called Sour-Faced
Penitent Amish Chick. Don't miss it!

Well, NAC wasn't meant to be a bitter parody, just a comment on what't *really* important to a lot of internet users. And you gotta admit the results seem to confirm that! Gavin wasn't kidding about the stats; I just checked and it turns out I got as many pageviews on May 22 as I received in the entire month of April.
But still, if it pisses off one person, that's one too many. So I'm gonna ask Chris to take me out of the Newsbox rotation entirely, to avoid offending anyone in the future.

that there is sexual innuendo in every

Bob, stay in the newsbox. Bobbins and WIGU can be mad if they want to. Some people are mad that I'm on Keenspot b/c I can't draw. That's just the way things work.
Soap on a Rope is hilarious, and your audience will grow.

I don't know if they're on Keenspot (though from time to time I have suspicions) but there are people out there who resent that I do a comic strip because I'm not a cartoonist.
Which I'm not.
Which is painfully obvious.
But my point is, there will always be someone who gets pissed at your comic for some reason. And there will always be people who think you suck for some reason. And maybe some of them are also fellow cartoonists, but you shouldn't let that get used against you. The Newsbox is a very, very good thing... my pageviews went up a lot the day I was featured (and it stayed higher than my previous average afterwards)... so Bob should definately stay in rotation, it's good for SOAR.

What a lot of hoop la la over such an innocent picture. If Chris provided the colouring that probably even means his mom coloured it. I thought it was pretty funny and now with all the hits it gave you, it's damn hilarious. I do wonder what those new visitors thought when instead of a naked anime chick they came across a gay wedding.
Oops, almost forgot the gratuitous signature plug!
http://www.crosswinds.net/~ghostz - where there would be nothing but naked anime chicks if only I could draw them
[This message has been edited by MarkGhostz (edited 05-23-2000).]

of '?' that fit.
And Pentasmal is violent enough.
Let's say 'contains adult situations,' and
then I think just about everybody fits.
Or even better, 'contains things that might
really mess up a little kid's head.'
------------------

Hi!
I guess my taking down the box was hypocritical, seeing as one strip I had recently featured one of my females wearing pudding.
The thought at the time was "He won't wanna get traffic like this."
I'll re-feature SOAR in another location soon. Apologies.
78,000 pageviews. People, people, people.
-jjr

Basically I just wanted people to know that putting Naked Anime Chick in the box wasn't my idea; I didn't even see it till Monday afternoon. Though I suppose I *could* have asked Chris to change it at that point, instead of laughing my ass off, which I what I did.
And I'm as dumbfounded by the 78,000 pageviews as anybody, believe me. To put it in perspective, I usually get only 1700-2000 or so on a weekday. 78,000 pageviews on a day when a strip is in the newbox isn't anywhere near the record; we've had some people score over 200,000. But by the standards of *my* traffic it's amazing.
Chris or Teri did a great job making that little pic of NAC. I wasn't happy with the way she looked when I originally drew her but they made her rather...compelling. Of course, I'm not to sure how happy those 76,000 horny internet geeks were when they found that Naked Anime Chick was just a joke making fun of horny internet geeks.
------------------

Bob, I don't know how you could feel
responsible for it.
I was also not offended by it, but please
don't tell child services, because I want
to keep my kids.
But really, how bad was it? Not very.
The only one who I noticed yanked it was
John Allison, and his strip is a lot more
risque (some would say 'decadent') than
yours.
Hey, is Naked Anime Chick the reason he's
going on hiatus? Now I'm mad. Damn you,

Bob,
I thought the newsbox was hysterical. And I laughed even harder when I saw your visitors and hits for 5/22. I thought you were pretty damned clever for featuring 'Naked Anime Chick' in the newsbox. Now, I guess you're not so clever .
By the way, exactly who yanked it off their site?
------------------

Yeah, I want to know who yanked it as well. I was expecting an angry email from a relative (some of them do read my strip -- "Chris, did you know there's a naked cartoon on your web site???") but other than that, well... I didn't think it was that big a deal.

Yeah, I gotta admit it never would have occurred to me to put NAC in the Newsbox. And here's a tip: They way you can be sure that I didn't do it is that Chris did a far better job colorizing her than I could have done!
We've been giving Chris a bit of a hard time about always putting sexy women in the box and he's going to cool it on that, but I guess he wanted to go out with a bang.
Personally I thought it was a laugh riot when I saw it, but I was a bit concerned that some people would object.
So anyway, when I saw that both Bobbins and When I Grow Up had pulled it down I wanted to make sure everyone knew it wasn't my idea. As creator of probably the least-popular Keenspot cartoon I can't afford to piss anybody off. We should probably institute a PG-only rule for Newsbox graphics from now on, just to avoid trouble.

Well, they were within their rights to remove it. I'm not bummed about that; I'm just worried that now they're gonna think of me as the guy who put the naked woman in the Newsbox. As for the 78,000 pageviews, it was a combination of things: Not just the picture and funny blurb in the box, but the fact that it was a Monday, probably the busiest net day there is.
------------------
