Just started reading a day or two ago, read it a day, from a link from S&V. Since then i have e-mailed most of my friend with two strips (from the 'Jumping through a flaming hoop' and the one about christian fundamentalists as they say what i have been thinking for the last 7 years but haven't had the words (or artistic skills) to say (and draw).
I don't recomend web comics to my friends as they are often to weird (talking rabbits, aliens, time/dimestion traveling etc) and often have to much back story to be explained easily (tenalces, camel morphing, wereanimals). I can also identify with Joe more than Torg (sluggy){ my friends are wried but not than weird} Dave (CRFH) {can't shot lazer beams out my eyes} and most other leads.
As for Gwen i think it was a step most webcomic writers have not dared to take, as it fundamentally changes the comic. Instead of depressed single guy Joe, we now have happy attached Joe, as well as the problems that come with it. Zoe and Torg has been hinted at since the begining (that rather drunken 1st New Year), but nothing has changed. The same is with most other web comics as they fear is they change it to much they will lose old fans (this is the case with some more than others).
Just because Joe Average is differnent does not mean its bad.

"Is Joe Average boring?"

Hell no. Does it draw a different crowd than some strips? Yes. Does it utilize a different means of expression? Yes. Does it refrain use whiz-bang-slash action? Yes. But without all this, it is the single strip that most holds my attention, out of any and all I read- because it's so real. As has been said many times through here, the fans of Joe are the people that identify with him and the other characters- and through this strip, to a great extent, we are Joe. We share his pain, we share his annoyance, we share his greif, and we share his joy. I didn't even come into this strip until a few days into the hiatus that just ended- and the archives simply captured me. Reading through those archives (and I have done this many times) brings me through the whole rollercoaster ride of emotion that is Joe's life. I am depressed with him, I feel the pain in each and all of his rejections- and when Gwen says "I'd love to.", I'm right there with him jumping up, pumping my fist, and shouting "YES!!" Other strips may keep me entertained more, may make me laugh more, or sometimes even make me think more- but Joe is real. Joe is life. Joe is the soul of the comics I read, and Joe will never be boring. Keep Joe coming at us, Aaron!

Wow, that turned out longer than I expected. Joe just brings out the best in me. :)

If JA is boring...

Postby scadada99 on Thu Jun 13, 2002 6:01 am

If this comic is boring, then I'm a shoe-in for Miss Universe.

And if you look at my avatar, that's the furthest thing from the truth.

It's been probably said a thousand and one times, but I feel it needs repeating:
Don't pay attention to so-called "naysayers". They don't like it? Let them go away. They don't need to be here. Keep doing what your doing. I love this comic, and would hate to see it change because some dickhead doesn't like the way a line is drawn, colored, etc, etc.

In other words, JA is the furthest thing from boring I can think of.

Okay, JA is the best strip out there because it doesn't have little pupet shows by god, or a crappy Final Fantasy knock off, its totally origanal and down to earth. It's my favorite comic whether some idiot 12 year old doesn't like the fact the comic has "realness" to it, the people who don't like your strip are probaly imuture 12 year olds who spam up message boards and wreck good games aka.Ragnarok Online, its people like that you got to ignore! Your a artist and good artists don't listen to ill-talented people who think they run the earth. Do you what want to do with the strip, as for me I have nothing better to do except read the whole JA strip once again.

By the way: To the bitches on the forum who whine and complain to people who try and help Aaron aka.His girlfriend can go to hell!

JA is one of my favorite web comics. I read the entire archive in like two sittings. As has been stated before the reson I like JA so much is because it is based in reality. It is much easier to identify with the characters, and they are really likeable with all of their good points and faults. Keep the comic as it is Aaron, we don't need video games or naked underage anime-esgue girls to enjoy Joe and friends' daily lives.
