SUPEROSITY: The neglected child?

Postby Ringading on Wed Feb 25, 2009 2:27 pm

How come Sore Thumbs gets a Facebook group and Superosity doesn't? And why have there been rumblings of an upcoming Sore Thumbs book with discounts for Twitter stalkers but no such word on a Superosity book? Superosity compares to Sore Thumbs as does chicken skin to chicken flesh (discounting the particularly delicious flesh of the parson's nose which is more of a flesh/skin hybrid anyway.)

SORE THUMBS has like twelve times the readership of SUPEROSITY so it gets cool stuff like that.

HOWEVER, you can easily correct that problem by forcing 11,000 new people to read SUPEROSITY.

GO!

You could just get the admin to change the name of the 'Sore Thumbs' group to 'Superosity'. Then the Sore Thumbs fans would be likely to forget, and become Superosity fans instead.

They should have been Superosity fans in the first place. Sore Thumbs isn't abhorrent, but it's usually kind of mediocre and I doubt I would be compelled to read it if the creator of Superosity wasn't involved. Thanks, internet audiences, for letting good taste down once again.

Still, at least I've found my motivation to become a super villain. I'll be on the loose just as soon as I've perfected the formula for my Superosity Toxin.

It's odd to me that so many inferior comics get more attention. Take White Ninja, for instance---It's fairly funny and deserves its popularity but, on the other hand, it isn't really much greater than what anyone could quickly sketch on the back of a napkin. I think Superosity is a comic that many more people could get into but is still largely undiscovered.

A Facebook page could increase readership.

What I love about Superosity is that the characters are extremely well-defined to the point where I almost think of them as being real. We know about them, and have a feeling of who they are. We'd notice if they ever did something that was really uncharacteristic. I guess that's what makes it so interesting when they do surprise us, like when Chris seems to grow in deciding not to go back in time to save Barton. Even when the strips don't make me laugh out loud, I get a lot of satisfaction from knowing the characters and their relationships. I think this is what makes me love most of my other favourite online comic so much (+EV, Everything Jake, PvP). But Superosity it definitely the best.

Sore Thumbs doesn't have that same quality. I don't view the characters as being the slightest bit real. This meant that I didn't really get much satisfaction out of Cercania and Sawyer getting back together because I couldn't take the relationship seriously. I think having less realistic characterization to be bound to is what allowed Sore Thumbs become so much more crazy than Superosity. And I think its to the point where its so crazy I couldn't really be surprised by anything I see there anymore.

But that being said, Sore Thumbs is still a good comic, just not in the same way. Today's "I'd rather sleep with you than admit that" line was hilarious. I really don't want to bracket what I like in a comic. The original Pupkin was completely insane, and we all loved it.

It's true that Cecania and Fairbanks are massive tits, but Superosity's Chris should be a sufficiently substantial tit for anybody's taste.
