Invader ZIM now available on DVD

Postby LCARS on Mon Apr 26, 2004 6:47 pm

Just a little heads up...

http://www.hottopic.com/store/product.a ... TEM=237303

The spooky-hobo shop "Hot Topic" is now selling these fine DVD's 2 weeks before the scheduled street date.

They are selling extreamly fast, so don't be surprised if it's already sold out. I've heard that the east coast stores are already stocking them in their storefronts.

Am I making a big deal out of this? Maybe... I just like seeing Nick get all pissed because these things are selling so well.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why would Nick get pissed? Don't they own the copyrights to it? (I mean, I would like to think Jhonen owns the rights to Zim, his own creation, but I would imagine Nickelodeon, as a Big Corporation, would hold on to the distribution rights tighter than the new guy in a prison shower.)

Nick made no secret that they hated Invader ZIM. They like shows that are sitcom-style with very watered down humor like Rugrats or Hey Arnold. Plus Jhonen isn't exactly a "team player" (read: mindless corporate ass-bitch) so he tried at every turn to undermine the censors and just generally make it known that Nick is a horrible, horrible place.

The people who cancelled ZIM convinced their higher-ups that the show was a no ratings dud (which wasn't really true). Now, with the DVDs selling so well, those people have been proven wrong... *VERY* wrong, since the first DVD is now in the top 50 best sellers just from pre-orders alone.

Tempting, but I think I'm still going to wait for that cool looking boxset that they planned on releasing.

The box comes with no DVDs. It's just a box. You have to buy the DVDs seperate.

Why was the show on Nickelodeon anyway?

This reminds me of Ren and Stimpy and how whoever runs Nick didn't like it.

Invader Zim rocked. Also, in the extras on the 2nd disk, among the extras, there's the demo pilot. It was either the first draft of the pilot, or what they used to sell the show. Amusing as well. I must own them all!

The commentary is hilarious.

Oh, also, Jhonen and Rikki did the cover for the first DVD, they also did a cover for the second DVD, but it was rejected by nick (and Jhonen isn't going to be redoing it). You can see it and even download a full-sized printable version at Rikki's journal http://sadcircusbythesea.typepad.com/

I only got to watch a few episodes, but I remember it to be very surreal. :)

I have mixed feeling about Zim, it can be funny at times but also a tad bit excessive. I believe on the all I enjoy except for a few diffrent parts. Also it gives us alien invaders a bad name. I dont know how much I would be willing to pay for it on DVD, but there are a few things that take priority on my DVD purchasing.

Poor Vasquez. Suffered from Kricfalusi Syndrome.

His best work is when censors and regulators force him to be creatively nihilistic as opposed to just shockingly banal.

And he'll never come to like this fact.
