The most common cause of male pattern baldness is excess testosterone (which some people - males, anyway - seem to think is a sign of virility) combined with a genetic predisposition for that to cause hair loss. Pretty much all of the working hair-loss treatments for men are testosterone suppressants, such as minoxidil (Rogaine) and finasteride (Propecia). They don't cause hair to grow, they just inhibit that which stops them from growing. (And it really doesn't matter where you spray the Rogaine; it just soaks through the skin and gets into your bloodstream anyway, just like how a nicotine patch doesn't make just your arm not need to smoke.)<P>Incidentally, the reason pregnant women shouldn't handle broken Propecia tablets is that it can mess up the hormonal balance in the womb and cause a (male) child to be born with female/androgyne genitalia (which is one of the many things considered a form of hermaphroditism). When the ads talk about "certain sexual side-effects" and "weight gain," it's meant as a euphemism for "growing boobs."<P>I just thought I'd share. <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspot.com/KeenBoard/biggrin.gif">
