SPOILERS:No, yeah, it's fine. No worries.

I was thinking about having Born decide (unfairly) that that goblin in the arena must not have gotten a fair trial, because a) human city and b) he's called Dies Unfairly, but I figure he would've decided that going to see him wasn't worth the risk of getting caught. That just never came up in any of my posts, is all.

SPOILERS:Ya, I asked about that... It seems that these fights are not to the death; so I am hoping that he is not going to be a plot driven accidental death. Picks might rage from that. Either way I am going to try to get his attention or find a way to contact him after the fight.

You are wise, teacher. Thank you.

Destroys focuses within, drawing upon the power of the arcane and transferring it through the entirety of his body, the earth giving him strength beyond recognition.

And transfers it, from stone to stone, feeling the power surge, before lunging into the inside, the very essence, of the little stones, juggling the energy around , gasping with ecstasy at pure, refined power.

And opens his eyes to view what has happened.

Day 1, Turn 14

Studies Everything He Can Get His Hands On
"...Okay, i guess that makes sense, so to increase the power of a magical item, you have to find a way to put pure energy into it?"
"That is more or less the gist of it, yes. Slightly more complicated then that, but I'm not going to bother you with details."

Studies heads down to the combat floors, just in case he ends up casting some kind of unwanted spell again. Down there, he tries to gather up as much of the energy that he can, and then channel it into the mana stone.

It is a horrendous failure. He can't "grab" this energy. He believe he can feel it ever so slightly, but is only able to manipulate it- and so far, in the only spell known as "magic missile". But actually grabbing that raw energy, and pulling it into that stone... It's hard. He could try messing around some more- He'll probably end up getting it "right" after a while. But for now, he heads back to the library, isolating himself in a good book concerning enchanting- which will hopefully help him a little bit next time. But as you can clearly tell, from yourself and from this book, it is hard to explain just what this "energy" feels like, or how you should go about channeling it. Practice makes perfect you guess...

Cut and paste
"Out of all the things I have learned over my time of living, I have noticed the pattern to be very unsettling. You see, as long as there still are people who care for things, then there is always going to be some sort of conflict. Something that you cannot wish away. Only way of achieving true peace is for everything to be gone. Even if there is peace, there will be little to no progression on the advances of technology. It would also get dull without conflict and there is more potential for more conflicts to break out. Also, you cannot change the fate nor can you change what people think unless you wish for them to become like everybody else."
"You make valid points. Which is why it is an ideal. But imagine a world in which we can put aside greed, and agree on equal terms, and be content. In which we can still work together to provide services for the greater good of everything. Like the cogs of a giant machine, all working together in harmony, for a greater goal. Yes, something like that isn't going to happen anytime soon, we get that. But why do you lose all hope in that? Just because you might not be alive to see it, might not mean your descendants one day will."

Cut, after hearing this reply, decides to try with what he refers to as "general magics", by which I will presume he means the arcane tower. There is a slight problem however. Mages only. And he is, as far as the mages inside know, not a mage.

One-bluff-too-many
Bluff, remembering the very basics, instantly grabs two vials. Valence looks pleased at that.
"I'm not familiar with this root, but I think I know what to do."
He gives no reply to that.
She knows how to handle the mushroom- crush it, collect the juice. This root is new however... But it appears to be bearing a good amount of sap inside it.
"It looks like this should be crushed, right?"
"And you failed the first part of your test."
"Wait, what?"
"If you want to be a proper assistant, I need to be able to rely on the fact that you can work on your own without needing my help at any point of time, for I will be too busy at all times myself. I understand that you are still new, and want to make sure that you don't create a failure, but I would rather see a failed potion and that you learn from your mistakes."
"I... See. Sorry... So it's correct, right?"
"Yes. It is."
"Okay."
Bluff proceeds to do the rest on her own- Extracting the sap of both the healing cap and the curly root, into two separate vials, and then carefully adding the content of the two vials together. Oh god you sure hope that this thing turning red is an indication of you succeeding. Though it would be kind of hard to screw it up...
"Okay... Done."
"Let me see."
"... Yeah, this looks like a decent standard healing potion. Congratulations. Though you have a lot more to learn before you can actually help."
"I've got three herbs here. One a mushroom if you want to be technical. The mushroom is called Muertella, poisonous."
"These dried leaves are grinder leaves. They have curing properties, seeping toxin out of your blood."
"And the last one, nectar. It finds it use as a secondary ingredient in some potions."
"Now, I'd want to see you make a solution of the first two ingredients, and a dilution of the nectar. Do you think you can do that?"

Destroys Nations
"You are wise, teacher. Thank you."
"Bullshit."

"Wise? I am! Yes, I am! Hahaha!"
"... What were we doing again?"

Destroys doesn't need him anymore though. Not for now at least. He feels for the power inside the stone, grasping at it, feeling for the same energy in the air. Transferring the energy between the stones and himself, juggling with that power. And opens his eyes not much later.

"Ah, the beauty of that vile thing."

Destroys managed to get a good enough grasp of the magic that he managed to transfer the energy between the stones a few times- and then enchanted the other stone. He stows away the, now charged with arcane power mana stone, away.

Destroys has gained the ability: enchanting. He can perform an enchantment if he has the neccesary items for this enchantment.

Born and Raised
Born is scurried through the city gates- The guards give a momentarily confused look- as does everyone else really.
"So, erm, what is all this about? Has it something to do with a guy called Aristotles?"
"If that is what you want our lord!"
"Erm... Okay..."
"..."
"Hey, would you be interested in buying some potions?"

"Stop!"
The "leader" of the group comes to a sudden halt, and you are dropped (gently of course) on the floor.
"Our hero wants us to buy potions! And so we will! We will buy all the potions he wishes!"
"Wait what? Oh god I'm going to make a fortune."
"So, who of you guys got any money on you?"
"Nothing."
"I maybe got some gold at home."
"All I have is this shoe."
"I got half a silver."
"Half a silver! Good! Okay, then let us go to this vendor and buy all potions we can for half a silver!"

Once again, before you can object, you are lifted up again, carried all the way back to the market, to the merchant that hired you for the advertising in the first place.
"Oh, hi there goblin! Some people came by, so I have a small reward for you- Do these guys wish to buy something as well?"
"Yes! We wish to buy all potions you can provide for this!"
"... That's half a silver."
"Yes it is."
"That's not even a whole silver. I'm literally looking at a silver coin cut in half."
"I do believe that to be true, yes sir."
"... It costs 2 gold for one potion."
"Well bugger me! Man! It appears we will need to find at least two gold to fulfill the quest our lord has given to us! Begin!"

One of the guys instantly puts down his one boot, which for whatever godforsaken reason he was carrying around, on the ground, and loudly begins singing on the middle of the marketplace. One of the other guys starts searching the floor for change. Two of the others run of somewhere, and the fifth, remaining man, their "leader", stays put.

"... Shouldn't you join them?"
"Of course not! As teller it is my sacred duty to stay in constant contact with you my lord!"

"So, erm, yeah, Born... Have that gold I promised eh? Nice new friends I guess?"

Picks-the-plan
Picks begrudgingly watches as Born is picked up, then taken away by the small mob.
"Seriously? First that stupid squirrel, then that random clock, and now this... You know what, I am sure he is fine."
Sure he will. Your here to see this show, and your not going to let this silliness come in the way of it.
The arena is beginning to fill up now. You get this feeling of "Soon". As if you can almost feel how behind the scenes they are just finishing up the details. And not a minute later, it is confirmed.
"Ladies and gentlemen!"
A large magical voice booms through the arena, seemingly from no visible source- Though, at the building from where the owner of this place, the very elite or rich probably watch, you can now see a single person- Probably the broadcaster. Could be that there are more people up there- You can't quite see that at this angle.
"Today, a humble, yet hopefully satisfactory battle awaits! We will be starting of with some humble newcomers to the arena, but at the end of this show, you will be able to witness one of our most anticipated battles yet! Golem lord Daero, who has been climbing up the ranks for weeks, against our long standing champion, Vires! Atleast, presuming they manage to get through the preliminaries."
"Now, a quick rundown- Our first duel will be the goblin prisoner Dies, fitting name if I may say, against some scum of the earth brought to justice, William Tales! Sorry William, I fear your tale has ended in this arena."
"For our second match, Brack will be facing of against Arcano, the elven traitor. Money's on Arcano here folks, but I think it might just be a close call!"
"The winners of these two competitions will get to fight against each other, will then be pitted against Daero, and the victor of that battle will get to fight our current champion! I am sure that I do not need introduce either Daero or Vires, do I? Oh wait, that's my job. Daero, gnome engineer, beliefs that the battlesuit he has created may be his best creation thus far- And he's proving it in here by trying to take down the champion! Vires however, has been standing champion for many years, and his sword and magic skills are most certainly not to be underestimated."
"Also, stay hanging after the finale- We will be hosting the execution of the bandit Mercury, on grounds so many, it is hard to keep count! Treason, stealing, oh my."
"In each case, let my voice bore you no longer. Let the games begin!"

The crowd cheers. The person next to you speaks to you.
"Pray tell, what brings a goblin to see one of his own kin abused so."
"Oh, erm... Well, I only just found out that there's a goblin here. And then I decided I wanted to see the fight."
"I see. So you do not know him?"
"No."
"Hmm. I wonder if he truly deserves to be here. My friend certainly doesn't."
"What do you mean?"
Only now do you spot the elven ears, hidden behind his cloak.
"I'm sure that a lot of people in this place deserve to be here. My friend doesn't. He discovered a few things, and spoke up about them. He had all right. But of course, the royalty would rather not let everyone know about such things. So they call him "traitor", and send him to this place. I won't stand for that."
"..."
"I'm just saying this since you might want to leave before the next battle begins. Who know what they'll think of a goblin sitting next to me."

Picks briefly wonders just the consequences of what the elf next to him is implying- Or rather, what he should do. But for now, the time to do that is cut short- the battle begins. On one side of the arena, Dies-Unfairly. Wielding nothing but a simple spear, and some simple leather equipment.
On the other side, William Tales. Packing a bow, a sword hilted, and some decent studded leather equipment."

"That isn't fair equipment."
"Hah. You think they care for that? The captives only get to keep some of the weapons- Or what they were given by the crowd. And who wishes to give anything to a mere goblin prisoner?"

Dies stood with his spear grasped tightly in his two hands. Shaking slightly, and only moving towards the other fighter at a very slow pace. William Tales in the meanwhile, had his bow at the ready- And as soon as he believed he could make it, notched the arrow.

Dies now ran screaming towards his opponent, spear ready to throw. The arrow hits the goblins shoulder, as he falls to the ground. He tries to recover, standing back upright, and throwing the spear- missing.
William notches another arrow- But aborts as he sees the goblin running at him with bare fists- The goblin gets in one good punch. But by that time, Tales got a grip on his sword, and slashes.

"And Dies is down for the count! I hope that was enough of an appetizer for you, ladies and gentlemen. Stay at the ready, as Arcano versus Brack will begin any moment."

The wound on Dies chest looks bad. He doesn't move anymore. Is he unconcious or dead? You can see the guards checking for a pulse, but the reaction to it isn't saying it, as if they don't care whether or not he's alive or dead. They probably don't. Tales is escorted back inside the arena as well.

Dares Devils
Well, Dares is thirsty, and this golden brew will be somewhat of a compensation for the loss. It's not like he needed that spear anyways. And he guesses he could still get it back if he managed to find some quick money...
Down the hatch it goes.
"Yuck! This tastes like wolf piss! Why would anybody drink this by choice!? Or even pay for it?"
There's a few funny looks, and three man laughing at you taking your first glass. They wait, whilst the disgust you feel for it's taste is changing into that nice "glowy" feeling. Best way to describe it atleast.
"It feels good though."
Before he even realized it, Dares had finished his drink.
"Say Dirk, do youse have problems with wolves at your farm? Youse know I'm pretty good at killing those.. Actually, I killed two of those furry beasts who threatened our camp just yesterday."
"Hah! Man that stuff gets too your head quickly. Anyways, if yer serious th-"
"Is also killed two boars! Sees?"
Dares vaguely remembers something about showing of his helmet and tusk. It all gets kind of vague after that though...

All he knows now though, is that he's having a splitting headache, is in some back-way alley and... Somehow has 5 gold in his pockets?

THIS "beer" IS THE BEST STUFF EVER.

Hears-Disembodied voices
Hears, deciding that there is not much else to do for the time being, his time is best spent doing some quick jobs for earning a bit of gold. Of course, he'll want to get a decent deal on something, so it's best to take a good look at that noticeboard again- Flush out the things that could prove worthwhile.

So, let's take a closer look at that noticeboard.
Parcel delivery: It's... About one to two gold per delivery. Though you could maybe manage to do two deliveries in a single turn? There's also the option to ship across cities, which does pay a reasonable sum. Of course, that would be a long distance to travel.
Cleaning the stables: One time, 4 gold
Imperial: "Scouting" 5 gold, bonuses
Imperial: Cleanup jobs, 3 gold
Arena: merchandising (basic social skills required), 3 gold

Those are the most interesting looking. There's a few more, but most of them at only 1 gold or less- things like doing some basic cleaning, things like that.

SPOILERS:Fun fact: it's not so that your clan has never heard or has been in possession of beer. The elders just always wisely decided that it would be a good idea to keep it away from Dares.

Also, a note that enchantment might not fully work as it did in the previous game. You will be easily able to enchant something so it simply becomes more powerful. But other enchantments... Well, that's for you to find out.

"I... guess? I'm not really sure what this is all about," Born admits, looking up at the teller hopefully, "or where they found rainbow cloaks. You've got to admire their enthusiasm, though."

Born considers getting his brand-new band of human lackeys (there's a refreshing thought) to do some of those jobs that Hears is looking at, but that's sort of overdoing it - and from experience, he'd probably better figure out what exactly he's getting himself into before he starts trying to turn the situation towards his own ends.

Besides, that one guy tried to pay for a potion with his shoe.

Picks The Plan

Picks stands there in awe as he watches the guards give Dies an apathetic once over.

Seriously? He never had a chance at winning, and now they are just leaving him to die?

Picks looks around the arena, the cheers of the crowd and disregards for Dies well-being enrage Picks.

The world around Picks goes silent to him as he focuses on his target, his hand reaches to his side as he pulls out the healing potion he found on the skeleton. He attempts to charge into the arena and force feed the healing potion to Dies.

Dares is in pain. It is awesome. He tries to recall what the farmer said. He might have mentioned a job for Dares. He's not sure about that though. There is only one thing he is sure of. He needs to lay down. Soon. His head is spinning, in no way can he think clear. He feels a sudden rush of anger about that goblin in the arena, but it is all a blur. Dares stumbles into the closest house to lay down and sleep this pain away. Wow, this beer makes one live like nothing else!

SPOILERS:I don't think there can be a sufficient enough distraction to be able to escape the center of a large arena/prisoner holding area. While in the spot where the prisoners pose the most danger, and therefore security.

I don't think escape is the answer, saving his life and then dealing/talking our way out of the situation from there seems the better option.

Hears ponders the numerous jobs.
The arena job is definitely out - social skills are not something he has - and the stables job would probably be better left until one of the other's needs to make some quick, easy cash.
The parcel delivery and cleanup jobs both sound interesting, and could end up being quite useful.
However, its the 'scouting' job that catches his eye - he isn't sure what the 'bonuses' may be, but they'll no doubt be useful in some way. Combine that with the fact that it's the highest paying job on the board (ignoring specialist and bounty work), and it's perfect.

His mind made up, Hears sets off for wherever he has to go accept the job. When he arrives he introduces himself and inquires about the job - what he has to do and all that.

SPOILERS:@Picks: If you get into serious trouble (i.e. guards attack and are trying to kill you), Hears is probably going to drop whatever he's doing and rush to your aid. Hopefully Voice won't be unleashed, but if he is then things could escalate pretty quickly. So, please try to keep things civil by not fighting back if you're just arrested or something - the rest of us (as in one of the others - probably Cut) should be able to talk you out of it if you don't actually break any laws.

SPOILERS:I was figuring I'd just tell them run in and make a distraction while you escape with Dies. That's not terribly easy to screw up, unless they announce that I sent them and give my name, which I'm not entirely sure they even know.

SPOILERS:The problem with that plan is it wouldn't exactly be difficult to figure out that the goblin prisoner escaped with the goblin who ran into the arena, who is probably connected the other 7 goblins who turned up at the same time as him. Remember, we need to get the stone piece from these guys, and that will be much more difficult to do if we become fugitives/outlaws/prisoners.

If you really want to save Dies, it would probably be better to wait until we have the stone piece and have done everything here we need to do. Or, we could even do it sooner and deny involvement by having Bluff leave the city, then sneak back in and save him while the rest of us have alibis.

Bluff gets to work on the potion, trying not to poison herself with the mushroom. She trusts her instincts for the two solid ingredients, but if she's never seen a dilution before, she will say "I know you want me to be able to work on my own, but I've never actually seen a dilution, and and I'd rather not waste an ingredient on total guesswork."

At a guess, you add water to the liquid, and stir or shake it, but there could easily be some step I'm missing.

Dilution means you mix the nectar with some other liquid(usually water) to make it less powerful as well as get more of it. :)

Day 1, Turn 15

Studies Everything He Can Get His Hands On
Reading is fun. But reading isn't going to do much good once they depart. It's best if he gave this thing another shot. So Studies returns to the combat floors, where students are practicing some simple combat magic on the provided dummies. Your guessing the dummies are magical- They seem to show where they get hit and how damaging the strike was, but not take any significant damage.

Anyways, he once again tries to grasp the energies, and empower the mana stone adorning his staff...

And pulls it of like he has been doing it his entire life.

Studies has gained the ability: enchanting.

But offcourse, this was only the start. Think of all the other things that could be enchanted! He would just have to find more mana stones first...

"Hey, do any of you guys know of a store that sells mana stones?"
"I usually get mine from the marketplace. Storage holds some of them though, if you can make a deal with the head mage."

Cut and paste
"Why am I disallowed to enter this stony area? I may not be a mage in your terms, but I can say a sequence of words which will have an effect upon the world like yourselves. I am mearly a mage of a different name and different way of casting and working. I fail to see why I cannot traverse this area."
"Well, your a goblin teller! That doesn't count as real magic. Does it?"
"Anyways, whilst we do have some stuff on divine magic, it's only because there is no other place for it. And if the only thing you can do is cast heal, then, well, your gonna have a hard time being allowed in."
"And what if some person unbeknownst to you wishes to learn your arcanic ways but cannot achieve to go into a school because of your restrictions? What if someone who is not of magical nature wishes to study upon your magics or study here for other various things?"
"Then they do what your friend Tripp did. They cheat."
"And how would they do this "cheating"?"
"Know what, I allready said too much. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to help you with that. Honestly, there's too many damn mages in this place that think they actually know anything about magic."

The door is slammed shut.

... Your pretty sure that wasn't the doorman Studies had previously.

One-bluff-too-many
Bluff immediately gets to work, trusting her instincts on the two solid ingredients- Cut and crush those leaves, add a little water. As for the mushroom, carefully extract its sap. You shouldn't worry about getting poisoned, as long as you don't get any of it on your fingers. And even then, just make sure you clean said fingers later.

She hesitates at the dilution however.

"I know you want me to be able to work on my own, but I've never actually seen a dilution, and and I'd rather not waste an ingredient on total guesswork. At a guess, you add water to the liquid, and stir or shake it, but there could easily be some step I'm missing."

"There is not. It is in fact as easy as adding some water to it. But do you know why?"
"I'm guessing that otherwise it's too potent?"
"Not exactly," Valence says as he takes the by then finished dilution out of your hands, grabbing another empty vial as well.
"It's so I can do this."
Valence splits the mixture over two different vials.
"There we go. I can now use the ingredient twice instead of once. Offcourse, the resulting potions will be weaker, but in some occasions quantity beats quality. It can be done with pretty much any potion, as long as you don't do it so many times that the potion starts losing it's effect."
"Anyways, your coming along well. But you would still need to know a bit more before you could actually prove to be of good help..."
Valence seems to hesitate for a moment, before eventually taking a few ingredients and putting them on the table.
"Let's just try and put you to the test. Have some ingredients you allready know, amongst some new ones. I want to see you create as many potions of this as you can. I don't mind failures, and I don't mind the outcome. Make from it what you will."

You take a look over the ingredients:
*Curly root
*Nightshade
*Grinder leaves
*Honey
*Some kind of white dust. Your not sure what it is.
*An onion

Destroys Nations
Destroys thanks the man for his lessons. And then asks a few final questions.
"What if you wanted to disenchant or tune mana stones? How would you do something such as that?"
"Oh yes! Certainly you would want to release the burden upon that poor stone! It's hard, very hard. Or wait no it isn't. Just grab that energy again! Pull it out, release it back into the void! Into the endless expanse."
"As for tuning it? You mean as in the juggling of all the elements? Taking raw power from a source, to abuse the power it contains? To grab the smell of onions? It differs! It changes all the time! You have to find what you need! Cabbage won't work for onion soup. Takes a little skill to find out on yer own. Best to ask me, oh yes. I can help you find the cabbage you need."

Born and Raised
"I... guess? I'm not really sure what this is all about."
"But my lord! Certainly you must know of the grand prophecy! Your disciple has arrived years ago, telling us of this day, in which you would finally reveal yourself to us! So we carried our robes, ready for this day! Ready to carry out your every word, my lord."
"How did you get those rainbow cloaks anyways?"
"My lord! Do you suffer from amnesia? Your disciple granted them to us!"
"... Okay, just who the hell is this disciple then?"
The "priest" stares at you for a moment, in slight confusion.
"Your disciple! He came to us a few years ago, telling that he was sent by you, giving us instructions to find you on this day! He also gave us the robes, to show our faith, and... Something else. Oh well, probably not important! The most important matter is that you are here lord, and we are here to do your bidding! We shall return to the church at a later time."

"Speaking of doing your bidding, your followers are returning it appears. No doubt have they managed to amass enough resources to fulfill this quest! Noble followers! What have you gathered?"
"Found 1 gold back home!"
"Managed to scrounge up some silver people lost."
"Managed to find that other half a silver."
"Nothing. People wanted me to pay them for having to listen."
"Okay. That brings us at... 1 gold and 9 silver. Damnit men, we are one silver short!"
"What about the shoe?"
"Yes! Trader, would you accept this deal of 1 gold, 9 silver and a shoe?"
"... If I say yes, will you then leave?"
"Probably."
"Deal then. Here you go, have a nice day."

MISSION COMPLETED! The followers gain one potion of improved balance. To share.

Picks-the-plan
"Seriously? He never had a chance at winning, and now they are just leaving him to die?"
"I expect nothing less from the monsters working behind the screens."
"..."
"Wait. What are you doing?"

Picks was storming forward, down and into the arena. The guards noticed him, rushing out- But he was a step before them, jumping down a solid two feet, into the arena. The guards that were dragging the lifeless Dies away now focus their attention on the intruder. You. Up on the stages, other guards are preparing their crossbows. These guys are serious.

Picks takes a few full hits as he charges for Dies- Trying to ignore the pain as he only barely manages to reach Dies, and apply the healing potion.
Not a second later, he is knocked out.

An unknown amount of time later, he awakes. In a cell, on a very crude bed. The only light shining in is from a very small window, near the ceiling- Too high to get properly at. Stumbling, Picks takes a look behind the bars. All he can see is a hallway, barely lit, with apparently nobody on it and what appears to be empty cells. But you wouldn't know, you can't get a proper look into them.

He's at 1HP. This was a dumb idea. They confiscated all his equipment. And he's not even sure if the healing potion worked. It might not have, if he actually was dead.

The only good that seems to have come from this, is that this escapade has gained him 3 EXP.

Picks has leveled up! Reaching level two, he can pick one of the following perks:

*Weapon specialization: Pick a single weapon to specialize in, gaining benefits when using this kind of weapon! (Weapon doesn't have to be picked right away, if you choose this)
*Taunt: Provoke a single enemy, granting a great chance of this enemy directing their attack onto you.

Dares Devils
Dares is in pain. It is absolutely awesome. Did that farmer tell him anything else earlier? He can't for the life of him remember. Guy said something bout... Bout some vermin. Yeah, he said something about vermin. Hell if you remember exactly what though. Gotta look for that one guy again. As soon as you took a little rest.

Dares stumbles into the most nearby house. As he nestles himself on the carpet, he hears something vaguely resembling a "What the hell.". Meh.

About 5 minutes later, he's woken up.

"Hey, drunkass! Your gonna stand up on your own and walk away, or am I going to have to drag you to the jail cell until you've got that booze out of your system?"

Hears-Disembodied voices
Hears ponders briefly about what he could do. There isn't much to think about however. It's the most paying job, and it has bonuses. Yes, this "scouting" job is exactly what he is going to do.
The directions on the noticeboard point him towards the castle. Or nearby at least. The imperial guardshouse. A whole building on it's own. You could see it as a miniature castle, within with no doubt many troops and guards, all training or working.
"Erm, hello?"
The bookkeeper looks up from behind his desk.
"Complaint, emergency, or request?"
"Oh. Erm, I was hoping to apply for the job."
"I see. Follow the hallway on the right- You'll find a box of cleaning utensils over there, then com-"
"I was hoping for the scouting job actually."
"..."
"Oh."
"I'm sorry, but... I think that will be hard. I do not think it is a job fit for... Outsiders."
"... Why not?"
"Scouting is... Basically it requires you to be the eyes of the law. You scout throughout the city, and warn lawbreakers of minor offences, and call for backup if need be. Basically, you'd be a guard, but without privileges and in civilian clothing. I fear that the job wouldn't be cut for you I'm afraid. Unless the general thinks otherwise."
"Can I see the general then?"
The bookkeeper points you in the right way. After a lot of walking through the building, having to ask directions at a random imperial guard at least once, he finally arrives. Entering the room, the general rises from his seat as he sees you. A man with a stern face, almost as if it was frozen stuck in that way. Nevertheless, he looked... familiar. It wouldn't take long to find out why.
"Hello, I was hop-"
"Hold that tongue goblin. I've been waiting until I could get to speak to one of you. Guards been telling me all about your arrival, but I can hardly drag you here just to ask my questions."
"Wh-"
"Hush. Look, from what I understand, my idiot brother returned together with the, what, eight of you? Now, my guess is that he is currently playing Daddy's favorite over at the church, but I'm a busy man and I don't have time to waste twenty minutes of my time walking there if he is not. So, is he?"

SPOILERS:I'm probably making a huge chemistry error with diluting honey into water, but I'm too lazy to check if this would actually work.

"....wait........you're Tripp's brother!?"
"....huh."
"........yes, you're brother's at the church. And yes, he's with your father. They're both helping me and my friends with this diplomacy thing we're doing. There wasn't very much of this 'daddy's favourite' stuff going on though - any conversation not concerning us goblins seemed quite.....tense. Frosty......"
"Anyway! I was hoping to apply for that scouting job you're hiring for, but the guy at the desk didn't think I was very suitable for it. For some reason. So......?"

SPOILERS:@Picks: that went better than I was expecting - I want to reach second level now :gonk: :grumble: :P
Do you need any help immediately? Or would you rather wait to see whether you can talk your way out on your own?

@Godbot: this sounds like more time travel stuff - we end up sending someone into the past to prepare the Rainbow Guild? Or maybe just a message that someone finds and follows, like that exploding thing at the camp?

@Slams: Please don't get Dares thrown in prison - we've got enough of our number locked up at the moment  :P

SPOILERS:According to Google, impure honey dissolves in water.

And Dusk, I've already got that covered:

So, Born supposedly organized this whole thing? These acolytes haven't once referred to Born by name - but then again, Born's already encountered one machine designed to send messages into the past today. It's entirely possible that later in this timeline, Born is going to use this timeline's Timewarper to send a message to the past to his future (past?) disciple, requesting that he prepare for Born's arrival in the city in advance.

Not that Born is necessarily going to be that well-versed in the logic of time travel. In any case, Born decides to play along for now, to try and learn some more about what's going on here.

"Thank you, Teller. You've done good work. Please take me to my disciple."

Bollocks. I blame the one F5 push I did Yes, I screwed that up again. But I wasn't going to complain much since I hadn't written that much.
