12/13/11 "An Unaccounted Variable"

Well well... looks like Kin has figured out that the existence-erasing holes are... well, erasing existence.

So... no other Kin has figured it out? Or is that NOT the variable?

At the very least, the holes haven't consumed any of them, right?

Hilarity!

I found this quite funny, for some odd reason! :D

You could say that reality 156 has the x factor. Hahah, get it? Variable? X?

:(

Edit: Hey wait, maybe it's the mug! Doesn't it have an effectively unlimited supply of liquid? Psimax may have forgotten to carry an infinity :P

Is her shocked face in the second-to-last panel a blinding revelation, or a sudden mental image of a pantsless Minmax? :D Or both?
"If he throws any more clothes in there, he's gonna be naked! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Hilarious update.

Uncounted variable, would help if we knew what the constants are.

Whoa. Kin is smart enough to defy the reality-erasing power of the holes.

But this does the raise the question of how reality does work with PsiMax's meddling. So the pants and boots truly ceased to exist (in the true oblivion sense that PsiMax discussed) but it doesn't stop the logical contradictions raised by the erasure of an object from its reality. Just as it's illogical to truly be able to talk about nothingness or nothing or oblivion and where 1 = 0, so does PsiMax's process result in other illogical paradoxes.

I guess this is where PsiMax becomes an enemy of our FMK directly. Why bother figuring out the variable when you can just kill the variable.

Contradiction time! If Minmax was pantsless what did he use to defeat Forghast and Pipemax? Surely he wouldn't have need for a belt.

The variable is actually the Purple Worm. Yes.

Oh no, not my vague plan Image

You know, for one brief and shining moment, I really thought I understood what was going on in this comic, and I was pretty damn impressed. Then, what I thought was a truly interesting and clever monologue about weird conceptual ideas turned out to be an actual weird conceptual explanation for what was going to happen next.

He would just wear the belt. He's got to let everyone know he is great!

What do you thing the variable is? It has something to do with MInimax since the portal appeared next to him and it took out the other Minimax.

Did he give up his ability to dance for a stat bonus to existence?

Before Brassmoon he didn't wear pants but he had the belt. No contradiction.

I think the unaccounted for variable was being nailed to a wall. They can't be sucked in.

Minmax had the belt for his loincloth until he bought pants in Brassmoon:

Kin is too smart to be fooled by somethings non-existance... that is weird sounding now that I read it back.

I stand corrected. Bravo to you troopers for remembering the days when he was pantsless. I tried to forget about it and almost succeeded.

"If he throws any more clothes in there, he's gonna be naked! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Or: she remembers never having seen MinMax wearing pants. (Because the pants he wore and she saw never existed anymore)
But she can't remember having seen him naked/in undies while being in the dungeon/walking around. (because she never has)
Since she can't remember either, there must be something wrong with her memory/reality.

Her ability to deduct conclusions from this bit is an enormous achievement.

But I wonder what that unaccounted variable might be.
Something which may not b brought into oblivion without never-exisitng PsyMax?

At least you never had to see MinMax do cartwheels in his loincloth.

In question to this unaccountable variable, could it possibly be Forgath/Minmax's fate about the serpent becoming the enemy, etc, etc? Since it's already well established that destiny will occur just may not occur as straight forward as the viewers/characters expect. But oblivion somewhat ruins destiny's attempt to salvage an alternative route to the outcome and thus forbids oblivion.

Probably a weak theory since it should be accountable to many different types of realities but I'll just throw the theory out there.
(And yes I just pulled out Doctor Who's "Fixed Point in time" plot device)

I think Kin is the only being in the maze intelligent to figure out that Psymax' plan relies on a wrong premise. He could make it happen, despite it being a logical error, since everyone believes that he can.

Remember, this is a D&D game, and there's a player who tells the DM that he can erase that reality. Since the DM is fooled, he will allow it, but Kin is played by someone too intelligent to let the evil player get away with it. Remember Kin in the gatehouse at Brassmoon city? She is a bit of a rules-lawyer, perfect for this situation.

My theory, erroneous as it may be.

Or possibly, "Look Kin; No Pants!" :D

Honestly, Thunt, you'll have to try this in real life:

- Put on some long pants.
- Put on knee-high boots that go over the pants.
- Release the belt and let the pants fall to your ankles (and over the boots).
- Now, while standing upright, get your right foot up and remove the boot.

I'd have to recommend you do this on a soft floor, or actually pin your neck to the wall before trying this...

in the 1982771 previous times through the maze, if any character had ever been nailed to a wall by Pipemax' ring, that would be a variable that Psymax could have accounted for. I find it unlikely that this situation never occured. There has to be something else about our reality that is keeping them safe.
