And you thought I was being blasphemous...

Postby Adam Black on Fri Oct 23, 2009 7:33 am

For those few of you still angry at me for reincarnating the Lord Almighty as Adolf Hitler, let me say this:

It could've been worse!

Read that over and let it sink in. Oh God, it's bad. Not necessarily blasphemous, just plain bad.

Jesus as a delicious baked good, you say? Sacrilicious!

(Thank you (I think) for giving me an excuse to use that line. Feel free to beat me vigourously with a piece of heavy mining equipment for the horrible pun.)

Sorry, Adam, but you got upstaged. This weekend, of all times (that is, just before you showed us your comic's version of god), History Channel ran a two-hour show called "God vs. Satan" in which, get this, they claim that Satan, having failed to tempt Jesus into failure, settles for killing him by possessing Judas, and that's why Jesus is crucified; not as a sacrifice, but as another casualty in the struggle. They don't out and out come out and say this, leaving some wiggle room, but the idea is there for three hundred million to see. And the masses, I'm guessing, paid not the slightest heed. Probably thought it was neat-o.

Oh, and Mark Twain refers to God in the New Testament as having 'got religion.' Which, coupled with your storyline, would certainly explain Torquemada, Hitler, etc., no? Only thing worse than a power mad tyrant is a power-mad religious fanatic—same problems, but guaranteed to be unstable.

I caught the first 45 minutes of that, actually. Ended up turning it off because it wasn't telling me anything I hadn't already figured out from my own studies. I should've watched the whole thing, apparently. I'll have to see if I can catch it as a re-run.

And that's the thing: I didn't just pull this concept out of my ass in order to piss people off. I just tweaked slightly a train of thought that's been batted around for centuries. Everyone from Twain to Voltaire to Byron has thought of this already. I'm just putting it in comic form.

We all like our fiction to be black and white Good Versus Evil, and that's just too safe for me. I want you guys to really worry about Isaac, because the world he lives in isn't as cut and dried as we wish it would be.

Locus, too. We'll be getting back to her soon, and she'll be dealing with these concepts as well.

And as for Isaac...he's dead, obviouosly. I killed him back in issue one. But that doesn't mean his story is over! I'll be introducing the Realms of the Dead next issue, but we'll get to see it in-depth once the Unveiled story is over. Isaac will be wandering around in the Realms of the Dead, trying to figure out what to do with his afterlife.

The vision of god in fiction I always found interesting was Hannibal Lecter's in Red Dragon (the book—haven't, and don't plan to see the movie—Manhunter is good enough for me). You know, the, God's a champ, always stays ahead of the game—bagged a airplane full of people two weeks ago, then an entire church last Sunday.

I know Harris is likely full of it (as well as cash, now) but this line of reasoning holds far too much fascination for me.

Adam basically condemned me to hell for being a Locus fan AND a Christian. But did I start my comic related fall earlier? Here's some great "blasphemous" comics I enjoyed!

Savage Dragon #31 "God tells the devil ' Don't fuck with God!' "

Preacher...

Loaded Bible... (Jesus vs. Vampires!)

Battle Pope!

Just a Pilgrim...

Great fun. Good yarns. If you got a funny bone that is (and if you're here, I assume you do)

Coupled with the fact that there are supposed to be no girls on the internet....

I guess I'm just a really confused guy who needs his chest drained a la Robert Paulson? :nervous:
