The new default Locus site (sort of)

Postby Adam Black on Sat Aug 08, 2009 4:52 pm

Let's face it: Locus is spread out all over the goddamned internet. I've got one site for the webcomic and forums, another for the print comics, still another for the blog...blah blah blah. It's a fuckin' mess--a mess to the point where it was driving me absolutely nuts.

So I put it all together in one site. Sort of.

I created a page on my website which has all the links to everything Locus-related. What's better is that these links will remain in a simple and handy little menu bar at the top of the browser window, no matter what you click on. Such is my SUPER-LEET HTML skills...which are straight out of ten years ago.

That's right, kids! Frames! Woot!

I've always been a fan of function over form, so this site isn't flashy in the least. It's also not entirely done--I still have the "About" and "Characters" pages to get finished, which I will do in my oddles of free time.

It's also light gray text on a black background, simply because the opposite always gives me a headache. Your browser has settings where you can override this, though. So if it bugs you, feel free to change it.

Here is the page I'm babbling about: http://monstersandnekkidladies.com/locus. Feel free to bookmark it, or even set it as your home page! You know you wanna.

Cool idea.

I would adjust the hight of the top-bar a bit though. On my screen the seperation line runs over the text. I can pul it lower to see the text, but I have to do this each time I come to that site, which is annoying.

Otherwise, a very cool idea!

Shit, I don't have that. I tested it in Firefox 3.something and Opera 9.54. Didn't even think to load it up in IE--of which I have 7, not 8.

I'll goof around with it some more and see if there's an IE hack to fix that.

Kinda funny, considering that page is straight out of 1998 as far as HTML is concerned.

Thanks! Tell 'em I'm sorry for the "straight out of 1998" aspect.

Hey Nothing wrong with that! I don't know when the fuck frames became such a taboo in the design world. They're fucking handy and simple (guess that's the issue). Anyway I'm posting to see excellent work and also to let you know that at least for me as of 1:33pm the indy planet page had dead links for print issues 1-3...when you click into the issue the cover appears (at least on issue 1), but the individual page previews don't. When you click them they do open in a new window though and you can see the page. Sounds like a problem over at indy planet really. Though you may be able to do something to fix it.

As far as I know, at least part of the problem is that you can’t style them, and therefore not truly integrate their design with yours. You also can’t fave a frame configuration, only the default frameset. Say you direct someone to http://monstersandnekkidladies.com/locus/ . If they want to fave http://locus.keenspot.com/ (as I am keeping it to avoid the hassle of clicking through every time I look), they have to bust the frame first. In some cases, though not here, that could be important.

WOW, Organized and easily referenced!
It is more difficult to get something like this done than one might think.
Good work, sir.

Woo hoo! Beer! :D

At some point, I really need to add Moondoggie to the character page.
