Location, Location, Location

The place to let everyone know how well-read and sophisticated you are because you read Out There. Because, you know, it's that kinda strip. Sophisticated. And junk.

One of the fun things about this strip is the fictionalized place names for real American cities. Clearly "Los Vicious" and "Arch City" are Las Vegas and St. Louis, which suggests that Miriam is coming from southern California. Portstown is a little less obvious to me -- we know it's coastal, so my best guesses are New York or Boston. Have we seen any landmarks from that town yet?

Also are there any other place names I'm forgetting that may have a parallel?

(This question came up on Aarin's review of Out There, sorry if y'all have already covered this over here.)

[quote="In Aarin's blog, I"]Yeah, I noticed Aarin mixed up the direction of the trip in the review, but it seemed like too minor a point to correct. Another minor point is that Miriam isn't a 20-something. She'd have to be at least 30, or very close to it, since she last saw her high school flame 11-12 years ago.

Anyway, about the cities:

Thanks for clearing that up, RC. You should keep with the fictional locations, they're awesome.

Are you still in SoCal? Going to ComicCon?

Huh. I assumed she was crossing the country in the other direction, but that's probably only because I'm on the east coast, so it made sense to me to start fr0m there...

Aww, man. I was trying to find what city Portstown represents so I could put it in the TV Tropes entry for No Communities Were Harmed, but it looks like RC's reply here got eaten.

EDIT: Portstown is Boston. TV Tropes's main page for Out There had it.

TV Tropes is not necessarily gospel. Portstown might be Boston. It might also be New Haven or Providence or Portland.

Or it might just be Portstown, USA.

It might not even be in the USA.

Maybe it was a good thing my original reply got eaten.

I wonder what it said.
