Ask me something

The place to let everyone know how well-read and sophisticated you are because you read Out There. Because, you know, it's that kinda strip. Sophisticated. And junk.

Out of curiosity, what webcomic do you draw, biev? :)
Thanks.

My apologies if someone else has asked this, RC, but do any of the characters have last names? I don't recall seeing any. :)
Thanks.

Fainting Spells, and I'm also illustrating The Missing Legend which should start on Monday... if I can get this stupid castle drawn already >_<

Wally and Rebecca's last name is Green. Clayton's last name is Clayton (his first name is Craig).

So far, that's it. I just drew a strip that reveals another character's last name, but you won't see it for awhile. Eventually they'll probably all have last names. But the ones who don't have them yet don't have them because I haven't decided what they are yet.

Araceli's perspective desired

Postby diddledop on Wed Nov 28, 2007 4:35 am

What does Araceli think of Miriam's and Sherry's friendship? I'd like to hear her evaluate that. I think she could potentially have some important insights. Like, what does Mir see in Chuck anyway? God, he's so milk toast ...

I figure Miriam is so off-the-wall that she meshes well with someone like Chuck, who (so far) seems rather bland. Sometimes opposites do attract.

Strange that, while John and Chuck are both rather calm and zen-like, I don't find John to be bland. Hrm.

I think I've developed John's character a lot better than I have Chuck's. Almost everybody who writes me likes John a lot (he seems to be a lot of people's favorite character) and almost nobody mentions Chuck.

I think a lot of people have latched onto John for the same reason Miriam did; they're intrigued by not only by his demeanor, but by his mysterious past that he's thus far been unwilling to talk about. People like mysteries, and there doesn't seem to be much of a mystery surrounding Chuck.

How & Could

Postby diddledop on Thu Nov 29, 2007 3:28 am

Funny how Miriam seems to be the only one who really likes Chuck, besides James & Sherry. Funny how readers rarely mention him. Funny how it seems people'd likely chuck Chuck if given the opportunity. Funny how Chuck himself seems indifferent to his own interests (Mir).

Or could it be that Chuck is the true mystery in this strip?

Or could it be that John is actually boring but clever at concealing it?

RC, personally I tend to forget that there's a mystery around John. It's almost never brought up, and in actuality we know him as well as we do the other characters, as in we can guess how he'd react or what he'd say in a hypothetical situation. We haven't actually seen any of the other characters' pasts either, even though we know a few not-so-important details. John might not be the only one with (or the one with the most) skeletons in his closet v(' ')v

When I read Out There I get the feeling that nothing outside of the present moment is important, so I don't actually think about how the characters got to where they are or where the story is headed.

That said John and Miriam are my favorite characters because of the way their personalities bounce off of each other's, because to me they are the wackiest, and probably also because I feel like I've known them longest.

About Chuck, he's the only person in the comic so far that I've found 100% ordinary, that makes me unable to pinpoint his personality. He says or does whatever is socially acceptable, and I don't know him well enough to know if he's sincere at all. If he has doubts or insecurities or quirks, he keeps them to himself... and so I keep hoping you'll push him over the edge, so we can see something unique about him. Come to think of it, so far we've only seen him react to other characters. I don't think he has really initiated anything. If all we see is him go "hm-hm" while Miriam snuggles and chats with him, of course we'll wonder what she sees in this boring guy.

John, who we say doesn't talk much but will actually gladly express his views on the world if anyone asks, seemed 100% normal at first and the mystery was what helped rope us in while you were busy starting the mechanism of the story (I'm imagining big wheels with cogs). But now that we know him, he's probably the weirdest character in the story - he's a radical.

I should stop talking now. I may be too well rested this morning o.O

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but are you planning on doing T-shirts or posters, or something like that?
