Welcoming Thread

A place to discuss deshive.com, the central hub for Dan Shive's (author of El Goonish Shive) projects. It has blogs, too! ...but no pool table :(

Well that depends on what we'll be talking about. In reference to your recent blog post, I might mention that Harry Potter book 5 is actually considered to be one of the worst, and that getting 4 would likely be worth your time not only because it's a much better book, but also because of all the additional subplots.

So, would this be the appropriate place to ask why the Goth dan avatar on the Blog?

If book 5 was the worst, I'm in for a treat reading the rest, because I loved book 5 ^_^

Oh, and for those who tried to visit earlier but couldn't, I accidently left these forums in "hidden" mode for 25 minutes after the site went live ^^;

I'd recommend starting with Book 1, if only so that you get the intro straight from the start.

And I liked 5... though I really wanted to strangle Umbridge (still do, as a a matter of fact).

"I put together a new bookshelf today. It was difficult for me, like most tasks in life. The darkness that binds my soul always makes things go awry; for example, guiding the hammer onto my thumb not once, but three times. My therapist says I should always look for a silver lining, so at least its new black-and-blue coloration matches my attire.

In retrospect, I find great irony in the construction of this bookcase. My assemblage of tiered shelves to support the contained media reflects modern culture; it is so pervasive that even I cannot help following metaphorically in its image. Marilyn Manson, I will not fail you again."

Actually, should probably make another thread for that. This is the welcoming thread for welcoming people (which means my last post was off-topic--eep!).

explains a bit...but, yeah, as far as HP goes, I'd say read all 6. I've read each one a consecutive 6 times...one time each for each number of books out. ^^ yes, I'm crazy, but it pays off when figuring out wacky stuff that wasn't known to most.

And I will welcome everyone that pops over here as well :). Now we will probably know a bit more about Dan, which is always a good thing, heh.

I believe a majority of us will be bunnies. And yes, I'll probably pop over here every now and then to comment on stuff, such as the bookshelves and books among other things. That reminds me... should we feel free to post new threads here, like in the main EGS forums? I'm asking just to be certain, though I'm fairly sure the answer is yes already.

I disagree about #5 being the worst, I think #6 is honestly one of the most obviously filled-with-random-stuff books I've ever seen. It just seems that after that many books JK Rowling is running out of stuff to put in and is forced to resort to teenage crushes and such.

'ello Dan. Good to see you're taking your art and projects to a new level beyond EGS. Between this and the KeenCast, I expect to see a new Shive come CC (if you are attending again... I've just not been informed or seen otherwise). And this year I expect to run around scarring minds as usual. Blame the schoolgirl outfit ;) And g- bah. I'm tangenting. My apologies.

Congratulations again, Mr. Shive. And to a new age of growth to you. And best wishes. Never forget best wishes. Toodles.

Hello Dan, I came here to inform you of a typo. I know how much you dislike those, or I assume you do from what I gathered from your KeenCast interview, you misspelled pronounced here...

Oh, and for those of you who are wondering, the name comes from my first two initials followed by my last name, so it is properly pronounned "D. E. Shive".

Just thought I'd let you know, and I look forward to more blog and news posts.

Cheers. :rootbeer:

Editted: Because I don't like typos in my posts informing others of typos. It just looks bad.
