The End

Postby Symok on Wed Feb 21, 2007 8:19 am

Well, the text ending is back up again. I guess its really over this time, since Josh has taken down everything off the main page :(

Thanks for trying, Josh. And thanks, as always, for creating a wonderful story. Best of luck to you in all your future endeavors.

This was the webcomic that got me started on webcomics. I can't bring myself to delete the link from my Favorites.

If there's one thing I've learned from my experiences with all the "Avalons", "RPG Worlds", "Men In Hats", "Reman Mythologies", and "Return To Senders" on the net, it's that most Webcartoonists are flaky and they will always ditch their successful creations at the height of their popularity, before anything is resolved, but after they've managed to build a huge community around their work and squeezed come cash out of you. Then they will turn against their fans.

It's really soured me on webcomics as a whole. No accountability = no consistency and no fulfillment.

So glad to see that you have taken to posting bile on the dead forums. It really helps your credibility as a critic and a fan.

Josh did put effort into trying to re-star Av and get it finished on several occasions, and unlike most did give it a real end.

One thing to keep in mind is it is a purely volunteer thing and even minor cash from banners, maybe a book like in RPGworld's case, isn't all that much compared to time and money put in. If the webcomic artist loses interest, there's not much that can be done but take a haitus and hope interest returns, or just end it. The artists aren't purposefully jerking you around, they just take it as far as they can.

I've never understood why he didn't finish RPG World. They were at the final boss fight, for God's sake!

Uh, I'm not sure if this is an appropriate thread in which to make this post, but it's a dead forum, so I don't guess it matters...

I wanted to thank the author for writing and drawing Avalon. Six-or-so hours ago, I discovered it while looking at the user profiles over at comic nation. I liked what I saw; I read more, and I came to love Avalon so much that I read the whole thing in one sitting. I'm sad that it's over now, but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and am satisfied with how it all turned out.
I'm even more thankful to the author because he gave Avalon a real ending. See, all this happened to me with RPG World as well...except for the satisfaction with how it all turned out. Because RPG World doesn't turn out. It doesn't end. Ian J., you fucker, I still want a proper ending. Thank you, Mr. Phillips, for not dicking me over in such a manner.

Still, I disappointed with the author's apparent shame over his creation. I can't even navigate the website! I only discovered the about section by Wikipedia's grace! Be not ashamed with what I love, Mr. Phillips!

so yeah i love avalon a lot ok thanks bye

There's still heat in the embers of Avalon.
I'm working hard on earning that $1M to pay Josh to finish it... but it may take a while. :p

You could probably do it for a lot less money.

Would Josh finish the series out for, say, $1,000 per strip? I'm betting he would.

And unless there are 1,000 more Avalon strips left to write, you would be saving a whole lotta dough.
