Unhappy anniversary - it's one year since we split

Postby Spaceman42 on Thu Feb 08, 2007 2:55 pm

It's been a year, now. A full year since the last posted comic. I'm sure Josh hasn't forgotten about Avalon, but... it's been three years, Josh, and I know that time flies and all that, that you've been busy with your personal life - and I wish you nothing but luck with that - but...

It's still a bit sad to see Avalon just fading away, you know? I mean... yes, it would have anyway, with the ending of the comic; the community slowly gravitating to other places, interests, forums - but to have it fade away with this sense of incompleteness saddens me. It should have been different.

[Incidentally, the title is in reference to a Loudon Wainwright III song. Look it up, if you want.]

I'm gonna post something trite and saccharine.
It actually works if you let it.

Instead of dwelling on how the comic remains incomplete, remember how much you enjoyed its run.
At least we know how the plotlines were supposed to resolve and it's better than how Douglas Adams ended the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series with Mostly Harmless.

And now he's dead.
Life is a joke, and it's on us.
We might as well laugh along.

Meanwhile I'm sittin' here, paddlin' and patiently waiting for the next comic.

It WILL come.

Oh, I'm not, I'm not. It's more the slow vanishing of the community that surrounded the comic that I dwell on.

And, you know, that bloody well.

The best way to fight that is by keeping the forum lively, while still on-topic.

I had some ideas for fanart and fanfics, but I don't have the skill, time or materials to get them done right now.

I miss the Avalon forum community too but I was lucky enough to have some of my real life community here when I joined and to add to my real life community from the forum.
We even set up our own forum for our purposes.

I still lurk around here, looking for ways to post on-topic.

Oh, and the bloody well was sealed off to help keep things on-topic.

Those were the good old days, weren't they? Boy, I really miss some of the talent that used to hang around here.

Well, c'est la vie...

Thanks for the ride Josh, hopefully you'll be able to work on some good projects in the future. I'm not going anywhere, ha ha.

An excellent conclusion, Josh. Especially the note at the end.

We've seen the text ending before. And it was followed by comics.

And now we're seeing the text ending again. And I am confident they will one day be followed by more comics.

Even if it's DW turning that text ending into comic form.

I'm not goin' anywhere. Nor am I gonna yell at Josh. (That never works anyways.)

Oh yes, Josh, please be sure to post a link to whatever your next work is once it gets started. Thanks!
