I am the Ryan. Hopeless with women and stuck to a computer. But my glasses are bigger, and I dress more casually (he seems to be in a button-up shirt all the time).
Okay, time for a rehash of relationships:
Joe + Ceilidh: loose romantic relationship (Ceilidh was infatuated with Iain for a time)
Ryan + Deeds: doin the nasty?
Phoebe: ???
Alison: Possibly attracted to Iain
Iain: Playboy
Me: Attracted to Alison, waiting to be turned into an Avalon character

Running with the assumption that most blokes are dorks, she publicly bad-mouthed Iain (at his going away party, no less). And now she's realizing that maybe she might have misjudged him.
After all, Iain might have played a bit, but he never actually did anything.
Worse, she's realizing that her hostility towards him is just misplaced anger towards herself because she might actually like him, and that bugs her. And worst of all, if she does actually like him, he's going away soon, and she has a summer of angst to look forward to. All this, of course, leads her to believe that she's fundamentally screwed up.
Thus, with one strip, I like Alison a whole lot more. ^_^v
[This message has been edited by flying squirrel (edited 07-16-2001).]

you're all hopeless.
Fundamentally, people who get "Into" Psychology are just smart enough to realize that they themselves are incredibly screwed up. This means that Allison has known for a while that she's fundamentally screwed up.
Now she's depressed, too.
This is not, as they say, a "Positive Development" in her life.
Allison is basically feeling like a louse.
As to why, well, there's lots of reasons she can have, that have nothing to DO with the Party, (as a matter of fact, what happened at the Party is more of a symptom, than a cause.) Maybe it's loneliness, maybe not.
For all we know, she could just be having a really bad period, or, she could have been doing Iain for MONTHS (somehow, I tend to think that He's a bit better at keeping secrets than Ryan is, and Allison knows how to keep people from looking.)She could just be in a "Down" period (this is unlikely, since we've never seen her "UP"), She could be going through Teenangst, and contemplating life in black makeup and hair dye. She could be questioning her abilities when it comes to "Romance" (all of her friends-with the exception of Phoebe, are currently "Attatched", she isn't ugly, fat, or, Psycho, what's the deal???), she could be just "feeling" ugly/unwanted, and the Party could have brought it to a head.
Like I said, lots of reasons.
On the Gripping hand, Josh's twistiness means that NOBODY in here is EVER going to guess right.

A prediction:
Allison will some how convince Iain to stay there over the summer, and they will hook up.

My (and others') new fiction, "The Visitor, or Alison's Folly", is to show a post-Iain Alison as I come to town for a visit. Possibly other board members will too. But this is one damonk/notdamonk free (or if he shows up, he must be normal). And there's no magic powers or wierd magic stuff or anything. It's regular angsty lives, and a popular Ryan. Wait, that's wierd. Okay, one wierd thing.

quote:
so it would be a 'farewell' to 'the old' Alison for the summer when she finaly discovers teenage angst?

As I see it, she already was quite aquainted with angst. Her psychology is how she expressed it. Constructively and rationally. Unlike 99% of people.

------------------

Yeah, but Alison was talking about the SHADOW, which means that there is some tendency that IAN has that ALISON throws an absolute fit about because ALISON DOES IT TOO.
Alison tore into Ian for being a player. Thus, Alison is a bit of a player. (Was this actually what Alison was upset about?) You can replace 'player' with whatever specific tendency Alison was upset about when you identify it.

Pauline: Most blokes may be dorks. This just means you have to look for those who aren't. Same odds we guys face, trying to evade the bitches and harpies of our opposite gender.
I'm lucky. I got meself one (yesterday, no less! *poing*) And she's lovely, intelligent and better balanced emotionally than most people I know. I struck gold... Or actually, gold struck me.
That considered, I know where Alison is coming from. She does need a good boyfriend. (Doesn't everyone need a good SO?) In her case, that would be someone who could get her self-esteem up, and who is a good listener - and most of all, who can cheer the girl up, make her laugh a little. I don't believe I remember a single panel of Alison being happy or laughing... It's high time she did.
