"Is there a mouse in your pocket?" Huh? Discuss amongst yourselves.

Sex, guns, and a lizard with dreadlocks.
OK, so I lied about the sex and guns.

My "reference I'm this close to getting but not" sense is going off like crazy. Beyond that I'm clueless.
<Edit> It's just an expression for when someone suggests "we" do something when you don't want any part of it. I don't think it's any twistier than that.
[This message has been edited by MizunoL (edited 04-18-2001).]

well it could just be the obvious answer. Joe didn't see anyone else so Ceilidh musta been hidin the rest of the "we" she spoke of. Joe also could've gone the route of the "imaginary friend".
"We? What's this we? You have an imaginary friend now? Is this friend here now?"

All is well. Aeire says that she uses that expression a lot in #avalon, so that's where Josh picked it up from. No more twistiness! Well, not nearly as much at least.
------------------

Josh,
It must be a Canadian thing. My dad (native Montrealer) does the same thing, and so do all of my Canadian relatives.
My mom's kind of picked up the habit from him, but I've never heard an American who didn't have Canadian relatives somewhere use that line.

So... what's it mean?
------------------

"We? Whaddya mean we? You got a mouse in your pocket?"
Actually, it's a very old joke. It's used when somebody says "We're going to do..." something without first asking you if you actually want to do it. I learned it from my father, it's that old. It's the "Hey, let's not just assume that I'm going along with you here, you didn't ask me if I was or not..." comeback.
I think it derives from that other famous 'we' joke, the one about Tonto and the Lone Ranger...
"Tonto, my faithful Indian companion! We are surrounded by ten thousand howling Apaches! What are we going to do?"
"What do you mean 'we', white man?"

It's a JOKE. Jeez, talk about reading into things... I mean, /I/ got it when I read it. Granted, it took me a second, but still... :D
------------------
