And to elaborate *ever* so slightly... ;-)
This appears to be the work of Rick Mercer, Canadian political satirist extraordinaire. It's basically a commentary on the Canadian Alliance Party's idea that more referendums should be held in order to guage what Canadian citizens want. In order to demand a referendum, Stockwell Day (leader of the CA) believes a petition of 400 000 signatures is sufficient.
So Mercer and his show, This Hour Has 22 Minutes, has started a petition to hold a referendum on changing Stockwell's name. The petition currently has 175 000 signatures.
Somehow I doubt that all of those are unique, or even Canadian. :-)
JOSH.

And when I signed it last night, it was only at 46,000. Yeah! Can you hear it? The people are shouting, "We want our leader of the opposition to be named Doris Day!"
I didn't know satire could be this sweet. : )
p.s. This is the same Rick Mercer (and co.) that convinced George W. Bush that our PM's name was Jean Poutine, which was dicussed a bit earlier in this forum.

This is the funniest thing I have ever taken part in.
I salute you Mercer!
Seriously, what can Stockwell Day do with this one? If hell freezes over and subsequently he becomes prime minister, I'll take pride in signing the real petition when it comes around.
