Bah. Details. Maybe she just thought it looked cool.

4. Why do you people insist on using PNG? It takes forever to load and opens like a Venetian blind.

I like PNGs.

It opens slowly because I saved it interlaced, which makes it harder to compress (but you get an approximation of the image earlier).

Despite feeling distinctly out of practice....

...Oops?..

Based on a scribbled pose I found in a sketchbook earlier, but I can't remember if it was 'original', or if I'd simply nicked it from somewhere else.

...so if I've stolen your work, apologies... :-?

3. Is Deirdre a Christian? I thought Atheism was the preferred religion of slackers.

Actually, I think the slackerest thing to do is NOT to conform to the religious norms (in as much as they exist today), NOT to decisively reject theism, NOR to admit that they don't know. Rather, a truely elevated slacker never thinks to ask the question to begin with, and if its posed to him/her they may shrug, and go back to going with the flow.

Well, actually, the preferred religion of slackers is Discordianism.

For the pursuit of slack is encouraged.

I thought that was the Church of the SubGenius.

You are correct there - it is the Church of the SubGenius. Of course, that church no longer exists since it's core material states that the world was supposed to end in 1995 and never made any retractions to that statement when it didn't happen.

I guess they were just slacking off too much to get around to a press conference.

My favorite SubGenius quote: "The end is coming, it's coming real soon, and we're going to keep trying until we get it right!" Not sure if I got that exactly verbatim. It's off an INWO:SubGenius card, in case anyone cares (good game, BTW)

I'd say most slackers are soft Agnostics - IE undecided. A good slacker will try and avoid answering. When pressed, it's hard to say whether agnostic, christian, or conforming to whatever seems most popular is your best bet. Agnostic might require explaining what the position is, and has a chance of being unpopular. The other two, on the other hand, might get you roped in to a more involved debate, which could expose ones ignorance.

Me, I'm a very strange breed of slacker, in that I'll bother over-thinking such issues :)

Keep up the good (naughty, whatever) work, everyone :)

Common cultural misperception. Until somebody presents specific evidence to denote gender, the majority of people will generally assume it to be male. In the real world, at least you can look at a person's body and have enough specific evidence. Not so easy to do on the internet.

On the web in general and on the Avalon forum in particualr it's a pretty safe bet, too.

MarkusN: I used to be paranoid enough to avoid ever using gendered pronouns to refer to myself, so it's not suprising you didn't know I was female. No worries :)
