Holy crap! There's more Avalon!

Seriously though, it's good to see you back Josh.

Even though I generally deride netspeak, only one word can sum up my reaction:

OMFG.

I think the strength of my reaction has to do with how out-of-the-blue I found out about Avalon's return. See, I was a regular reader in its heydey, and checked pretty much daily until the "that's it, here's the ending in text" post.

So it came off my webcomic list, and aside from the occaisonal sift through the archives, I accepted Avalon was over.

Lately, I've found myself enjoying webcomic blogs like Websnark. I was checking out a new one, Mr. Myth, and it had a post about how Avalon had been down for awhile, but was now back. "Oh, how quaint," I thought. "A post about back when Josh did a couple of new comics after one of his long pauses."

The I noticed the blogpost was from this year, and I gasped audibly.

Huzzah, Avalon!

Well, was back, for a bit. It's asleep now again!

Meh, stupid 404 error.

Me, I'm not complaining. If it takes Josh 5 years from now to finish the comic, then so be it. I'm just glad that he's decided to do it at all. Avalon is still up there in my top 5 webcomics with Kevin and Kell, Sluggy, Schlock and Dominic Deegan and I still like to read it from the beginning again and again.
...
By the way, hello everyone, long time lurker here with first post.

Ha, I remember this comic. I was a pretty big fan till he claimed he'd "outgrown" cartooning in 2004.

I haven't thought about it again until today, and then only because I was editing the "RPG World" wikipedia page and I wanted a comparable strip that the artist had abandoned in mid-story at the height of its popularity. Say what you will about Mr. Phillips, at least he never expressed the bile and resentment for his fans that Ian J did! :D

Still nothing new. I updated the Comixpedia page to the best of my ability. Has anyone heard anything from Mr. Phillips? Again, when he initially decided to end it he claimed he'd outgrown cartooning, so I'm assuming he still feels the same.

Well, you could always stalk him on his LiveJournal page if you really are intent on pursuing this line of huffy disapproval. :okthen:

I think nowadays his stance is he looks back on Avalon fondly but hasn't managed to pull together any other major projects like he was able to do with Av. For awhile he was planning one called Heaven's Down that he posted some cool character work of but that's as far as it got.

So, does that mean I get to bring the forum into 2010?

Well, I can be the first non-spambot, anyway.
