*plays the soft and lonely tune on his ukelele*
I'm without CGI. My comic is only 75 strips in but it needs a freakin' archive!
I've tried Hypermart for my archives and it worked for a couple of weeks but now it simply doesn't work at all. The code is perfect too, but the image doesn't show.
So have you guys considered having free subdomains for comics that need archives or just CGI in general? I am in desperate need, especially when Gav's Keenspot Lite CGI comes rolling around(which I'm sure will totally rule :P).
============
Matt Wilson, he makes other cartoonists look..well..just about the same, really.
Read COMIC!!! or Grosse's turnips will rape you in the night! And turnip raping is painful. http://www.mw-comics.com

Where did you get the CGI script? Is it an archiving CGI script? I'm interested in the same thing (hoping Gav takes pity on all us non-keenspotters soon) and would love to see what you're trying to use. I wasn't really aware that hypermart put restrictions on the CGI.
------------------
Sure yeah I draw comic strips -

I use the CGI archival script used on Fungi(not made by the guy who draws Fungi but his friend, actually). It's extremely simple.
If it was working, you'd find it here: http://mw-comic.hypermart.net/view.cgi?60
================

I'm not sure exactly. But Zorkboy(the maker of Fungi) occaisionally stops by #webcomics, so you might be able to squeeze it out of him.

I don't want to promise anything, but we are currently discussing offering a simple, free webhosting service to non-Keenspot Comics in exchange for running our ads. If we did, it might not be available for some time (a month or so), as we need to work out some concerns with our current webhost, as well as gauge the abilities of our server.
------------------

Last time I saw, mycomix.com was offering free webhosting and archive handling. If I was non-Keenspot, I'd be with them.
Hoping this helps,
Maritza

Gav - I understand the thought that Keenspot wants to limit itself to certain comics that it thinks meets its criteria (where is that FAQ page from Chris anyhow) but why not consider selling non-Keenspot space to other comics or selling the CGI script? I think its clear that a lot of us non-keenspotters like the tools that Keenspot has developed and we're looking to automate some of our sites. Don't make me learn perl just so I can automate my site !!! (my best whine/beg/pleading on display now)

"Selling" webspace to non-Keenspot comics was actually the idea I was discussing. Being a "Keenspot Comic" brings a variety of benefits, including promotion, hosting, and the infamous updating scripts. As we are being highly selective in who can become an official Keenspot Comic, we'd like to offer services to non-Keenspot Comics as well. These services must be necessarily toned-down, however, for a variety of reasons. One major restriction is the amount of individual technical support I can personally give. With this in mind, we are currently considering what services we might offer non-Keenspot comics in the future.
The CGI script will, for a great variety of both technical and business reasons, remain proprietary to Keenspot--that is why I will be developing "Keenspot Lite," which will be completely free and public domain. It won't be as "full featured" as the Keenspot scripts, but it will do the job.
Speaking of which, thanks for being patient everyone, in waiting for this. I've had to spend quite a lot of my time lately with webhosting problems and extensive debugging of our newest feature (soon to be unveiled).
I'll think about and discuss with the others the concept of "selling" full-featured scripting for non-Keenspot comics that we may host in the future. Such a move would require a considerable number of technical, security, and documentational issues solved first. Again, no promises, but it is "under consideration."
As for "barter"... We already have an IRS agent, an accountant, and a nuclear physicist. What did you have in mind?
------------------

For example, I am an experienced pimp AND lawn bowler. Surely these talents would lend themselves to Keenspot nicely and be richly rewarded.
Iain Hamp http://www.modernevil.com
