Getting "Spotted". What's the current criteria?

Postby TheDeeMan on Mon Jun 29, 2009 4:39 am

I've searched the forum for threads on what it takes to get spotted here at keen and all of them (and their advice) are YEARS old now.

I was just wondering what the current criteria is for a comic looking to get spotted? What is Keen looking for?

I ask for future reference, of course. :)

Sorry, I don't visit this part of the forum often.

The answer: roughly the same thing as before, though we're now more focused on developing properties in-house rather than bringing in outside comics. More than ever, an existing comic has to really impress us in order to garner an invitation. I don't think we've invited a new creator since May of last year.

Thanks for responding, Chris. Just wanted to know if anything changed.

The last time I asked was a few years ago when I was working on G.A.A.K: Groovy Ass Alien Kreatures. My newest comic (The Continentals) doesn't even debut until late august, but I was just wondering if anything had changed. And I guest they have

I have to admit, Chris, it is a bit sad to read that you guys have started to only look in house for new comics. Especially because there are so many great ones out there topick from.

I didn't say we're ONLY developing new comics in-house, just that it's becoming a much bigger focus. We still continue to strongly consider outside comics.

Is emailing submissions still the best way to go about trying out, or do you strictly only approach comics you find by other means? I just had always been curious if you guys actually were able to read all the hundred of applications you must get. Seems like a lot of work.

E-Mailing is still good and we do take a look at all E-Mailed submissions, but we most strongly consider comics recommended to us by existing Keenspot members or other creators we know.

Well, if you know someone on Keen who thinks you have a kickass comic worthy of being on Keen get them to put the good word in for you.

Who you know doesn't mean anything if the comic itself isn't any good.

You know.... you should be linking to your OLD comics as well as the new one, since the new one doesn't really show anything ... comicy.

Hey, look who it is. Hi, Tiff. :)

No I was just asking as an FYI. And I just recently switched my sig. GAAK being ready to end, and The Continentals being ready to start (Aug 31st), I figured I'd change it while i was here before I forget.

But if anybody wants to read GAAK it's here:

G.A.A.K: Groovy Ass Alien Kreatures

How're things with you, Tiff?

Does this still stand? I recently looked at Keen's FAQ and it says you're not considering any new comics anymore. Period.

Just asking. :)

The FAQ is correct, we're no longer inviting new members to Keenspot. We're focusing entirely on the remaining existing members and in-house properties now.
