Today's forum outage was due to a hardware issue with the machine. It's not expected to be of any further concern.

We are currently updating systems, and an unfortunate side effect is that PHP module changed ABI's, resulting in having to rebuild everything that uses php. Please report any broken parts of the forums or any missing images.

The outage for forums.keenspot.com from about 10pm Pacific to 6:30am Pacific was due to a Fire located near the ISP's system that resulted in systems being removed from power.

http://blog.iweb.com/en/tag/incident_el ... e_20101103

This incident resulted in the forums server powering on, but not booting up due to issues at iWeb.

http://www.keenspot.com was only affected by the initial power cycle, in which the web server did not come back up right away, briefly impairing site performance across keenspot.com for about 8 minutes.

No further outages are expected.

I've gone ahead and moved/locked most of the inactive forums so they are less of a spam magnet.

Mayhem, Goblins and Dominic Deegan have been moved to "Active communities" as the associated comic has left Keenspot, but otherwise they'd be buried under all the inactive forums.

I got a little problem, somehow my search does not function. Not sure if this has been addressed already, it's hard to check without search...
I can search for Authors normally with all options and stuff, but as soon as I enter a search query, no matter what option I use, I will always get 'No matches'.
I tested it with Words I confirmed to have been used recently.
I barely ever use the search function, so I am not sure since when this problem exists... at least I hope I am not just doing some very stupid mistake using the search here.
Need to look up something about my chars? Here's the list: Characters List (Updated 4/5/11)

This member might be a serious forum problem.

Just recently claimed to have the password to the keen admin account and posted it across every forum: memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=61882

That's so obviously a malware link. It has the same russian spambot pattern as all the other ones I delete.

Unfortunately, it was still faster to copy the data over to the main server than get the forum server back up, and would take either another 5 hours to update.

So you're seeing a reversion of the database at the point it was around 6am on the 23rd of May 2011.

We've been getting a lot of spambots lately. Really vulgar ones, too. Do the registration captchas need updating?

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place for it, but...

This poster AroseBise(memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=67031) is spamming porn links on the Dominic Deegan board.

There's nothing that can be done about it without banning gmail, yahoo, msn/hotmail/live and various anonymous email systems and proxies. I could put a logic quiz in instead, but I think some people are misunderstanding the reason for the spam... it's because the keenspot forums are highly visible, so they are targets of SEO spam. The bots could care less if anyone on the forum clicks the links. Every so often I do a bulk delete on the accounts with zero, one or two posts.

You know, you could just "hire" a couple suckers volunteers to be global moderators to ban the bots when they pop up. Or, you could *gasp!* do that yourself!

You know. Something. Anything. It would be better than what you seem to be doing now. *points at the two spam entries in a thread that the admin should be looking at on a regular basis*

It appears that some spambots are now making posts as "guests"; without making accounts.

Examples please?

I just did a bulk-delete of all zero-post users (which was over 11,225) this results in "gaps" where the spam post was. If it was a spam post initially, the thread can just be deleted.

It's gone now, but it was a thread in the Goblins forum. Reported it, went to click the user to report all of its other posts, but it had no userpage.

Also, I need to apologize for my behavior earlier. I should know better than to allow myself to get that worked up, regardless of the scenario. :(

Very prolific spambot. Needs to be IP banned and its posts mass-deleted.

Thank you. On that subject, would it be useful to you for users (*cough* :shifty: ) to collect profiles of spambots in a topic or something?
